Are there any ports that are better than the originals?

SNES port of Prince of Persia was greatly expanded with more boss battles compared to the original version and faithful ports.

The PC port of Driver 1 had better framerate and longer view distances along with better quality textures.

The arcade port of Choplifter is far superior to the Apple II original.

The PS1 ports of Wizardry 1-5 include a soundtrack, upgraded graphics, redrawn enemy portraits, and a built-in automap feature.

The Win3.1 port and SNES port of SimCity are both considered superior to the original DOS release. The Win3.1 version has re-sizable windows so you can see more of your city at once, and the SNES port has a soundtrack and some additional buildings.

There's a PC release of Rayman that has a bunch of stuff that was never in the Jaguar original or PS1 release, including a level editor. Hardcore Rayman fans say it's the best version.

The NES and Win3.1 ports of the Macventure games are superior to their original releases, since they are color and the originals were all B&W.

Literally any port of Night Trap looks miles better than it's Sega CD original. 3D0, DOS, Mac, even the later 32X/SegaCD version. Original is a grainy and heavily dithered mess.

>PS2 is better

lol, no. the PS2 version has a lot of gamebreaking glitches that were never patched, pop in, bad performance, god awful FOV. It's just less enjoyable, the PC version downgraded a lot of things but kept some improvements from the XBOX port. PC has its only quirks but they're so irrelevant.

Ecco DotF on PS2. I'm willing to bet the dev team pitched the idea to port it to Sega.

The added stuff kinda sucks and doesn't make up for worse graphics and framerate.

Tekken Tag is another instance of a game which was improved as part of porting it to more powerful home console hardware.

Mods entirely fix the PC version and makes it way better than any other release. It just takes an evening to set everything up, that's the only downside.

There's some things in the PC port that were never fixed, like the way objects just suddenly pop in instead of fading in like they should to make it less jarring

LA really did look like that in 1992. Smog was out of control at the time.

Namco were on a spree at the time. Time Crisis 2 was another big example of the sheer gap between being made on old arcade hardware, and the jump to PS2. There's room to debate the character design changes and whether they look worse in the higher-poly versions, but hey. Can't find good videos for a better comparison.

Crisis Zone on the flip side was totally overhauled and characters redesigned, so there's more to debate on whether the port overhaul was improved or not, like how enemies have more of a dynamic reaction to taking damage in the arcade whereas on PS2 they were more generic.

For some reason, San Andreas is the one game where the piss filter was completely appropriate, necessary even.

What are your issues with the PC version? I have a mod pack somewhere that basically fixed all of my problems with it- restored the lighting and missing models and vehicle spawns, etc. It's like the PS2 version with better resolution and performance.

Contra and Super C on NES. And if you count it as a "port" (even though it's kind of a half sequel) then Double Dragon II on NES.
