Based. Thank you! I'm new to MK64 hacks, and never actually ever owned the game despite owning N64 since 1996 as my main console, so a lot of even the base game is fresh and exciting to me.

Ok, I think I've ID'd every single byte used by the first slot, and managed to force a LVL 1 Ninja in the slot after summoning one in the second slot. Also managed to figure out the HP bytes and the AC bytes, so you can make whatever is in that slot nearly invincible. Viewing them in the menu, both appear with the proper portrait, though oddly the edited one just shows normal HP and AC values. It used the edited values in battle.
Still trying to figure out what all of these bytes do. Doesn't help matters any that nearly half of them are different every time you summon the same monster, with no noticeable difference in abilities or stats.

I'm still waiting for Surging Aura in English. Some nig named RedComet has supposedly been working on that for over a decade.

Also that Yu Yu Hakusho adventure game for Genesis that someone announced probably over a decade ago but has reported nothing since.

Reminds me also that we don't have the SNES YYH games because GideonZhi, an unstable and self-aggrandizing faggot, "claimed" them decades ago but hasn't worked on them since.

Probably because the Spirit Detective and Dark Tournament arcs were the most popular, and they wanted to give Japanese starving Genesis fans something they could really value (like with Wily Wars being a compilation of specifically the first three Mega Man games).

I had a whole two paragraphs that I accidentally deleted concerning syndicated reruns and Gilligan's Island on NES being released thanks to being locally rebroadcast on UPN or WGN Superstation or whatever in the 80s/90s and the Cell Saga being replayed on afternoon Toonami in 2003 like 300 times to make a big deal out of the next DBZ arc's release (same with Orange Islands because Pokemon Gold/Silver hadn't come out yet), to provide some context as to why certain arcs of a show are still popular with most audiences, but this has become more of a blogpost now, so I'll spare you

Show that hack was based on was great, too, imo. That whole arc seemed as much like a vacation as its intended setting, including Tracy Sketchit who was a cool and apparently underrated character (can't get cooler than Pikablu and Scyther as your main guys). I played the romhack in 2020, and was loving up until my Snorlax mysteriously disappeared from my entire game, somehow (I didn't release it nor remember putting it in a PC box). I'll start it over sometime again, soon, especially since it's the 25th anniversary of The Movie 2000.

Same anon who worked with Gotta Protector before but here's where I got when trying again recently. Four of those just grey screened so this ones the farthest I got.
I got something to order later which can help me see if it's a busted cart or not but until then I don't think I can do a whole lot unfortunately. Don't know if it's a defective cart or if it's got some protections on it but since it's LRG anything's possible.

I got good news for you, anon. I managed to get your ROM dump fully working (except for the graphics, of course).

I first tried using Mesen's debugger to see where does the game crash, but I noticed the game was just getting stuck in an infinite loop. Then, out of curiosity, I used YY-CHR to replace all the sprite duplicates from your ROM dump with X tiles to see if something happened.

To my surprise, it did! Now Amazon was doing her stretching animation before the game froze again. Additionally, the hidden sound test (accesed by pressing Select + Start in the title) was also working.

Then, I replaced all graphics with the ones from Amazon's Running Diet, filled all empty CHR areas with X tiles, and now the game runs without any freezes. I also kept the armored Amazon sprites that were present in your ROM dump.

https://files.catbox.moe/wtjfrq.zip

Now the only thing left would be to get a proper dump of the game's CHR-ROM.

You've got no idea how long I've been waiting for this, even if it is just a PRG-ROM dump, thanks! The game uses a sound driver which music you can write with .mml files. I wrote a program that extracts music data from a ROM that uses that sound driver back into .mml, and afterwards into .nsf. Since ATR uses that sound driver, it also works on it as well, here's an example of one song in .mml/.nsf:

Yep, I've hit a serious roadblock. Now I can't even modify the stats I modified before on summoned monsters, and changing the LVL1 Ninja's other values had zero effect. Changing every other byte besides the name field should have had an effect, but nothing. I can pick which monster goes in slot 1 more or less, and set HP and AC to insane amounts, but I can't seem to find anything beyond that.
I'm abandoning ship now, no point in spending more time beating my head against a wall. Also getting tired of having to re-do the memory watches in Duckstation. The way it presents data also isn't the most helpful. Anyone have any recommendations for PS1 emulators for debugging/hacking? I'm not exactly holding out hope on something like FCEUX's code/data logger and debugging tools, but Duckstation is very bare-bones.

Does anyone know how often the Chinese make those Saturn Action Replay/Pseudo Saturn Kai carts? I went ahead and ordered a $30 Fenrir clone because at that price I'm willing to be a guinea pig, but I still need a ram/save cart, and every seller on Aliexpress is sold out of the GOOD PSK cart that has all 4 functions in one. You can still find the 3 in 1s and 2 in 1s that do RAM + Action Replay, and RAM + PSK, but the ones that have PSK + 1MB RAM + 4 MB RAM + 8MB Memory Card you can save directly to in some games are all sold out. I don't really want to order the action replay knockoff or 3 in 1s in case the counterfeit Fenrir doesn't work and I end up having to burn CDs.

Aliexpress is full of Saroo though, and I'm worried all the guys who were making 4 in 1s switched to making/selling Saroo. I don't want Saroo because the compatibility, especially for homebrew, is fucking terrible. I don't know if there are really a lot of Saturn guys here, but I figured it was worth a try because I really don't want to make a reddit account to ask those guys.

md5: 4b06c4fbef0f13b185b675f2ccebdbc2๐Ÿ”
usb loader gx on the wii keeps deleting my saves or not updating my saves.
I've been playing doubutsu no mori e+ for a few days but every time the day rolls over my last save is ignored. If I save and turn the console off it loads just fine, but if I were to play the game five times on day 2 and then fire the game up on day 3, it would pick up from my fourth play session's save made when the game starts and so resetti shows up. That very last save is always ignored or lost somehow.
I'm not really sure what to do. USB loader uses emulated gc memory cards as the default but is there a way to transfer my save to my real memory card where I might have better luck? Or can dolphin use this save format?

11 years, two novelties, one copy+paste of four levels from SMB games, and one attempt at an actual new hack. Good luck.

This is like, 50% not retro, but between a modded Xbox One or a modded PS3, what's a better choice for retro gaming (up to gen 4, i.e. SNES/Genesis games)? I'm leaning toward the Xbone simply because I already own a PS2, and the PS3's library does not interest me, while I don't own an Xbox/Xbox 360 anymore, and their libraries do interest me. I know the Wii would also be a good choice, but I want something with a blu-ray player so I can watch my boomer movies.
Is there any reason not to get an Xbox One to use as an affordable emu box?

I'm currently playing through Doom for the Saturn with the fix patch v0.2.1.

It's amazing how well it plays. It's not as "pretty" as the PSX version (no colored lighting, looks very drab), but the improved framerate and all restored features/effects are a great sign of things to come. Hopefully, this gets restored completely to match โ€” or maybe even surpass โ€” the PSX version of Doom.

www.romhacking.net/start is a good start. It links to guides for various different skills one might need for ROM hacking. Its pretty old, though. Some of the specifics are out of date. but all the core concepts haven't changed.

>I wanna do a sprite restoration in a Gameboy game
If you want specific help, you should say what game it is. If the graphics are uncompressed, it may be as easy as copy and pasting graphics in a tile viewer like YY-CHR. If they're compressed or the graphics changes require tilemap editing, you'll have to do some reverse engineering to make any headway. Compression algorithms usually don't change between versions, so it is possible that even if the graphics are compressed, you can get away without having to identify or recreate the compression algorithm by copying the compressed data from one version and pasting it into the other and adjusting the pointers accordingly.

A heads up that even though Retroarch and the like are available on Xbone, you have to pay MS $19 to get access to Xbox Dev Mode. You also have to switch back to Retail Mode each time you want to play Xbox/Xbox 360/Xbox One games, and the backwards compatibility for the original Xbox on Xbone is EXTREMELY limited. The Xbox library might interest you, but that doesn't mean much when you have to play Chicken Little instead of Jet Set Radio Future.

Which Xbox games do interest you, btw?
