That's how I felt when I snagged it in 2007, OP. Originally, in 2003, it came down to buying this or Double Dash and I chose the latter (an awesome game, albeit). I'm glad a I still played X first, though, which is just barely a better game than GX.

This.
Zoda forced him to settle for Mario Kart: Double Dash because that's one of the worst racing games of all time thus befitting his evil character.

What's the argument behind X being better than GX? I've played both and I always though GX was better because the handling feels tighter, advanced tech is still a thing, the track design and environments are more varied, and you can build your own custom F-Zero machine. The only criticism is Death Race not being a thing anymore.

For me, I prefer the vibe of X with its post-apocalyptic space look, the superb metal music. As far as gameplay goes, the ships feel lighter in X and the circuits are tighter, twistier and more challenging. It's also harder to win races in Master difficulty compared to GX.

I dunno. I like X, but everything about it feels pretty samey.
in gx, every machine and track feels more distinct. granted that's because the vehicles are unbalanced as fuck and a couple are near unusable, but using one machine in x feels like using any other machine unless you're doing space flying shit with the blood falcon.
at any rate, I like gx's physics far more.

X fanboys are among the most contrarian chodes you'll ever meet. GX curbstomps X so fucking hard that I don't think anyone who says "X is a better game" actually believes it, it's pure bias or nostalgia.

I wouldn't even call X a good game to begin with. It's so fucking bare bones and repetitive, there's basically nothing to it outside of playing the same handful of ridiculously shitty, flat tracks over and over while buttrock grates along in the background. And that's it. No cool game modes outside of death race, no building your own vehicle, no proper story mode, nothing, and the handling is complete dogshit compared to GX's butter smooth controls. X fucking sucks.

GX was too fast for me, feels like you have to know every inch of the track to get anywhere, mainly on high difficulty modes. I prefer the original and X for being more manageable, while still very rich mechanically with memorable tracks. Get the expansion kit for X and it also comes with a couple more cups and a course editor. Based

GX feels like old light projection toys. plastic. soulless. Sega's grubby mitts all over it. meanwhile X is pure unfiltered Nintendo black magic, you can FEEL the cocaine in the dev room

also lmao at getting called a "tendie" for having correct opinions, stay mad, GX cucks

This is valid. X feels a lot more post-apocalyptic than GX. GX art direction took a humorous / sarcastic approach but I feel like it was also a lot more involved with the character development of each racer and the environments you race in. I love Aeropolis and it's soundtrack over anything X has to offer. But Dream Chaser and Devil's Call in Your Heart are amazing soundtracks and I wish GX had some of that, too. I also think Mute City + Big Blue soundtracks are better in X.

the default themes for mute city and big blue in gx are both really mediocre, but the unlockable cover versions are fine.

You'd only say that if you didn't read the manual, as X has a backstory for every racer in there.

Deja Vu: you reminded me of when I was a retard kid that thought Captain Falcon "from Smash Bros." on 64 was annoying and therefore said F-ZERO X (a game I never played) was going to suck, but then some equally retarded black kid told me to shut up because I hadn't "done the fights" in "F-Zero" (I think he thought I was talking about some WWF game when he said this)
