In Maniac Mansion's sequel, Day of the Tentacle, Weird Ed has a blacked out repressed memory where all he remembers is that it somehow involved his hamster and that it was a problematic moment for him. He also has taken up stamp collecting to apparently deal with his anger issues over said incident.
This heavily implies that the hamster event in Maniac Mansion canonically happened, despite it being an optional Easter Egg in the game, where Syd or Razor can microwave his beloved hamster, causing it to explode. The fact that he feels the need to deal with apparent anger issues from that event also implies that the further optional event where someone showed him it's remains canonically happened too, which causes him to kill that character in a fit of rage.
Maniac Mansion had you choose three out of seven playable characters: Dave, Bernard, Jeff, Michael, Razor, Syd, and Wendy
So, who was killed?
In Day of the Tentacle one of the playable characters is Bernard, so it couldn't have been him, though he was apparently one of the three that canonically had entered the mansion in the previous game, and if this event is canon then one of the other characters had to have been either Syd or Razor, or both. While only Syd or Razor would be willing to microwave the hamster any character can carry it's remains, and if Weird Ed runs into that character while they are doing so he kills them on the spot.
Bernard+Razor is a better ship than Bernard+Syd.
you can't nuke the hamster in the PAL release of NES Maniac Mansion although you can in any version of the US release.
Laverne later breaks to 4th wall to directly lecture the player about how putting a hamster in a microwave is a bad idea for bad people, while she is drying the hamster off in a not-microwave after thawing him out.
So there are two moments where the game indirectly accuses the player of microwaving the hamster in the first game, both of which treat it like a "how could you even think of such a thing!?" moment despite the fact that they coded it into the game.

I certainly need more of that Razor
>>11795147 (OP)OP I think you're thinking too hard into what's essentially just a meta joke about one of the controversial aspects of the first game.
I'm sure any of the creators would likely think the same if you asked them.
Razor certainly didn't get killed since it's implied her band is the one Hoagie is a roadie in.
Can you microwave the hamster if you play MM in DOTT?
>>11795193And also he's always friendly and respectful, generally knows what he's talking about, and isn't extremely fat.
>>11795220More than kinda. It's a shame the comic's characters were almost all male, given what that artist was apparently capable of
>>11795424Microwaving only works in the second DOS version of MM, the enhanced release with EGA graphics redone in Amiga style. The original DOS version of DOTT includes the first DOS version instead, a port of C64 version which predates NES release. DOTT Remastered includes V2 MM and even gives you an achivement for killing the hamster.
>>11796030I think that foreign language versions of DOTT might also include V2 MM as V1 was not localized back then.

Also, it's not necessarily canonical that he kills the teenager who shows him the hamster.
>>11797238I'm sure Bernard wouldn't be so chill around him had him killed one of the teenagers in the past game.
I understand removing all of the playable characters from being playable, as that's just a pain in the ass - but why not some cameos in DOTT?
>>11797690in this vein on my last replay I thought dott felt a little weirdly barren, empty. maybe that's part of its charm but it easily could have used a few more supporting characters popping up. maybe that'd be too hard to implement with timetravel.
>>11797690in that vein on my last replay of dott it felt a bit weirdly barren, empty. I have no idea how'd you fit them into the time travel premise but a few extra supporting characters hanging around outside of the family and the random period npcs would have been welcome.
>>11797690Only three teenagers canonically were involved in MM.
>>11797774Well, can't it work like Resident Evil where there are canonically 5 surviving STARS members despite only ever having 4 per scenario?

Secondly DOTT's only rival in point and click games is fate of atlantis. These are the alpha and omega if pointclick adventure games and nothing else comes close including meme fag shit sam and max
And I put DOTT slightly ahead because it's far more playable and accessible. I wish everyone played it along with fate of atlantis.

Maniac Mansion is a pretty good gooning game. I never play as Bernard though, his theme is the worst
>>11795163I'm just now noticing this comic uses the less censored prototype as a base, as shown by the mummy pin-up in the background that was removed in the final release. Which makes sense, since they used the less censored prototype to make their map of the mansion for the magazine.
>Dave
Most likely not, otherwise the mission to rescue Sandy might have been considered a failure.
>Bernard
Clearly not.
>Jeff
Not possible, since Dave and Bernard would be the other two, and Jeff can't microwave the hamster.
>Michael
Not possible, since Dave and Bernard would be the other two, and Jeff can't microwave the hamster.
>Razor
Not possible, since she's mentioned to be alive in the sequel as the leader of the band Hoagie is a roadie for.
>Syd
Only likely option, since no mention of Syd is made in DoTT, and he can microwave the hamster.
>Wendy
Not possible, since Dave and Bernard would be the other two, and Jeff can't microwave the hamster.
So...probably Syd. I'm guessing it happened when Bernard and Dave weren't around, so they didn't know he died, and probably thought he just bailed out on them.

In the beginning of one of them, you can try to pick up a bunch of broken glass which does nothing but make you fatally cut yourself if you try to pick it up (which makes sense because Roger Wilco is a cumsy retard and the death message is to make fun of that if I recall).
If I remember correctly, Ron Gilbert used to cite that as why Sierra games were shit and in one of his later games had a nasally-nerd-glasses girl character mug to the camera and go "if I were in a Sierra game, I'd be dead by now" after you do the same thing.
