Some drives read data more accurately than others. Error correction can only do so much, and might not always be right.

They can get some sort of extra data that doesn't necessarily matter to actually playing the game but is infact part of the CD. Redump PS1 hashes match the images that were sold by Sony itself on the PSP, dumping through some random drive with ImgBurn doesn't

Plastic absolutely does matter until, at the very least, a proper dump has been produced and circulated.

This is a tool for decrypting EBOOTs from the PSN, not for ripping original discs. If you're going to lie, at least link to a tool that's for creating images from actual discs like MPF or something.

The software that was linked to doesn't rip anything. It's a decryption tool.

Yes and the images it decrypts match the hashes you get with a Redump allowed drive, ripping a CD copy of the same game with a random modern drive doesn't. To put it simply Redump is verifiably accurate to the data in Sony's archive that was used to make the original discs.

copy protections that work

>>11795690
it's not if you don't have:
> the right drive
> right firmware
> right software
> talent when it comes to protections and dumping
that's why there's only a certain amount of people in the world that can do it successfully. and probably less amount of people that know how to crack the protections. since we're talking about only preserving, the cd image should function like a store bought copy, complete with protection.

that is valid... or not.
ripping CD and DVD is easy.
>shove CD/DVD on drive
>start power ISO or ultra ISO
>done mega CD/saturn/ps1/ps2/xbox/xbox360/WII ripped.
>call it a day.
see how it isn't that hard, the only ones having issues would be dumping dreamcast or gamecube games and that's it (WII could be but you can dump the game with other software).
no need for specific drive or firmware, something similar applies to ps3/ps4 games which mostly need a modern BR drive and that's it.
dumpers want to complicate stuff to get free stuff so they can sell it or replace it in case is in better condition then their original CD/DVD.
