Back in the 80s these games were vastly superior to what my 8-bit console or computer could deliver. That was the appeal.
They did smell bad generally.

the urban vintage arcade here is weird because it's full of people acting like they've never played a video game before, like they don't have the cognitive wherewithal set up anything outside their phone's app store. like not even a console game or steam

for some games the arcade version was better than the home version, like mortal kombat, the arcade version is like the "real" version i guess. The price to play them was kind of high though, like my mom would give me $5 and it would last maybe 15 minutes. So i never played arcade games much
