/vr/os! Help me find the ideal gateway survival horror for my GF

She's in her mid 30's with very limited experiences in videogames overall (Her first and only console is a Switch which she grabbed a couple of years ago to play mainly Pokemon Let's Go, then Animal Crossing NH and lately Hello Kitty Adventure Island).
The key point is that she is really into psychological thriller movies & series. Also she loves paranormal /x/ stories, but not completely fond of horror media because of the 'jump-scares' that tend to riddle the genre.

In the past I made her try Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse on the switch but the clunky(?) controls represented a great barrier for her. (I think because of this RE1~3 could share the same fate)
I was thinking SNES clock tower, but as much as I love the atmosphere, I know the interface (lack of mouse support) is going to discourage her really quick.
Then I started thinking of DC exclusive Illbleed but I remember it been a little bit to heavy on the "3d platform" aspect of itself, don't get me wrong, the atmosphere it's awesome but I feel it leans more to a dark Mario64/TombRaider than to a Survival Horror
Also, haven't played myself anything in the Silent Hill series beside the beggining of SH4:The room, So I'm not sure if SH 1 or 2 could be a good entry point for her.

If you have ever recommended videogames to loved ones, you know that you dont have many chances to make them try not-that-known vidya

I'm pretty much open to anything, so don't hesitate to throw me your best :^)

Agree and almost universaly true but you have to admit there are better and worse control schemes (tank controls?)
If the game hooks her up I know she can deal with the controls (got atmost at the end of Links Awakening and she's really enjoying Stray right now, despite relying heavely on platforming because she loves cats lol)

Would it work to play a game you haven't played yourself but think will be good, and have her watch as a backseat participant who will keep up with the story and help figure out how to solve puzzles and all that? I've had fun doing that with people before.

Another angle I think of is visual novel-ish games that don't have much action, but the only ones I know of are non-"retro" (Danganronpa series, Zero Escape series) - maybe there's a "retro" one like that though? I don't know

I don't think OP is willing to sell both kidneys, which means emulating them, which gives women the major ick. In all seriousness, if her first and only console is a Switch, just stick to modern games in the Switch. You can't force people to adapt to older games they have no experience/interest in.

I would love to but life had taught me the ultra hard way that sometimes prioritizing peace is better than being right :p just my really rare case and applicable to almost no one else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I beleived that a couple years ago but, for my surprise, she showed interest for links awakening out of the blue, and progressed almost to the end
Likewise, if the game is too old (Return to Zork old-like) I can use the suggestion for myself :p lol

Fatal Frame/Project Zero series. Watch a walkthrough of it, memorize the jumpscares, sit next to her on the couch and grab her elbow when one hits

Try silent hill 2 with her. Psychological horror that basically has very little jumpscares. It's simpler than fatal frame. Still tank controls though. You might need to look some stuff up for the puzzles, but it's one of the easiest survival horror games. If she is enthusiastic about it, she can learn tank controls. If she is just playing along for your sake, then there's a larger chance that she'll get bored.

I had my ex play through the beginning of dark souls. She had only ever played the sims and some shit on her ds, but she was so into the world that she ended up making it to Anor Londo (took her like 60 hours). I helped her with one or two bosses, but she actually got semi-decent at it. If it's something she's actually interested in, she'll be able to learn it.

English is not my mother tongue, so every native english teeacher I had were caucasian women... and since I've never lived on any country where english is the main language... this is what I have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>Are you a lesbian couple?
Have to admit that's a good one, lol

My fiance also likes Animal Crossing, Stardew etc and loves horror movies but is too retarded to play tank control action games. We had a really good time playing through Silent Hill 1-4 together, where I'd just play it but she'd help with puzzles and watch cutscenes etc. They're very visually dense and narrative rich games so it never got boring for her despite being in the passenger seat the entire time. RE1-3 are much more gameplay focused so I don't think she'd enjoy watching just watching that. We've played a fair amount of indie horror games on itch together as well but they're mostly pretty forgettable.

The Silent Hill games are obvious choices. Not retro but The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is a prime modern pick for psychological horror

Seconded hard, I fucking LOVE Darkseed.
And unless she used to watch Retsupurae (or better PBG, he's how I discovered it though he intentionally spoils and covers as little as possible), she's in a unique position to not have her perception of it a little bit tainted by YouTube people.
I like the sequel a lot too but since it's pretty much a straight comedy it's not entirely the same deal and I don't replay it every Halloween.
Clock Tower (SNES) is another one of my Halloween favorites, again potentially Jontron wouldn't be swaying her perception at all.

Also personally I don't like marriage much either so yeah you do you. Not in a relationship myself and not the relationship type, but as a purely romantic thing instead of a socio/economic thing I don't really see the point apart from maybe tax breaks.
