Got a 2DS for free from a sibling (wasnt using it because he stopped caring about gaming), was wondering how it is as a handheld emulation machine (I have no interest on 3ds games as I'd rather emulate them on my PC).
Mostly interested in Game Boy/Color/Advance.

It's 100% binary compatible with GBA
SNES emulation is decent
N64 and PSX is a no show

it's not that good for gameboy becaue of the screen resolution. if you do pixel perfect mode it barely fills the screen. if you stretch its blurry as fuck because there's not enough pixels to scale properly. Better of playing just DS and 3DS games on it

I had problems with the audio on these systems, the graphics were fine but the emulators never did the sound correctly, would reccomend an actual nintendo DS lite to just plug gba game into with a ex flash drive

Psx emu is ok actually. I played SotN and Tales of Eternia on it. 2d games and games with pre rendered backgroinds should run fine, games like Silent Hill and MGS are a no go.

3DS has GBA hardware in it. Same as DS but no need for a flashcart.

Oh I thought 2ds's had the beefed up hardware. In that case no, psx won't be doable, and honestly even SNES will be hit or miss.

Emulation is kinda wonky at least on non-"new" models but you can cia inject the gba roms

I have one:
NES is great with VirtuaNES
Master System and Game Gear with Picodrive is great
Genesis is good with Picodrive, Sega CD games with it have slowdown though
SNES is good with Snes9x but some games (usually the troublesome ones like Kirby SuperStar, Star Fox and Yoshi's Island) have slowdown.
Game Boy with GameYob or GnuBoy works fine, some Color games have slowdown or don't emulate a few things (Perfect Dark on GnuBoy runs better than on GameYob but lacks the digitised speech), I think the DS version of GameYob has better performance.
GB Advance with open agb firm works amazingly well
Neo Geo can run using NeoDS, performance is not that good but its playable (beat Metal Slug 2 and X on it)
There's ports of Doom, Duke 3D, Wolfenstein 3D and Quake too, those work fine if you like Prime Hunter's control scheme
Haven't tested for other systems like Atari consoles, Wonderswan, Mame or Neo Geo Pocket.
But like >>11797991 said, the screen is terrible.

If you get a NDS flashcard, you'll have quite a few games to play. GBArunner is still not fully developed, but in a couple of years it should be quite good

The annoying thing about the 2DS is the charging port wears out easily. Not that hard to replace but soldering is beyond a lot of people.
N3DS XL and 3DS XL had the extra contacts on either side that let you charge in a cradle without wearing out the main port, I dunno if any of the 2DS models had that. Nothing worse than a device that's otherwise fine but has a finicky port.

I wouldn't say 100% but it's mostly compatible with GBA roms when injected
CPU, graphics and audio are fine. Cart hardware is the main deficiency that open_agb_firm had to work around
