Genesisn't 2 stinks because it has lower quality sound and mono-only, not that it mattered because everyone played with the included rf adapter

It was the console of choice for divorced dads because it was $50 cheaper than Stupid NoFriendo and had Sonic for their autistic kids

99 here

My favorite games on the Megadrive are Shinobi 3,Landstalker and Sonic&knucles 3

Great console but i put it far below the SNES (the top 10 SNES is better than the best Megadrive game imo)

I think the Dreamcast is the best Sega console

Average dads didn't often play new Gen consoles till late Gen X became dads in the late 90s. If you had a dad gamer at all higher chance they saved an Atari or Coleco to show you as a kid in 90s

In the early 90s my dad had an NES, he got a genesis and snes around 92-93 I did play 2600 around the same time, with his dad. Your dad might have had a 2600 in the early 90s, if you were a teenager or older.

That's cool. It's just more a phenomenon I noticed within the generation split starting with late genx and millennials, which is keeping up with childhood hobbies into adulthood, it's much more rare with people older than that who may retain their childhood hobbies or fandom but rarely seem to keep being active in those hobbies

Gaming especially was more seen as like a children's toy still

I was born in 98 but due to reasons i grew up playing on a ps1 and a sega genesis. Theyre fucking awesone.
The only console era that kiiinda feels "too old to be fun" is the atari 2600

We zillenials experienced 2D games either through flash websites or the GBA. I never owned a handheld so my exposure to Mario, Sonic, Metal Slug was from sites like Newgrounds.

People say NES/SNES era games are way more advanced than Atari but besides graphics I never thought so at all. The games I mentioned would entertain me for 15/20 minutes max.

Xillenials, what was a captivating game from the 3rd and 4th gen that would hook you for hours?

Im 99 and have no problems playing retro games. Infact I rarely ever play anything 7th gen and up, I came to the conclusion that modern games were garbage when I was around 15 all on my own and Ive stood by that ever since. I'll play pretty much anything as far back as NES. I don't actively dislike Atari, Intellivision, etc but the games are just a bit too simple, but that can be fun every once in a while.

My favorite console is the Dreamcast but I absolutely love SNES and Genesis too.

I would normally only play for less than 1 hour then do something else. It was not until I got a PC in 96 that I would play long sessions of Civ II, Diablo, Red Alert, Duke 3d

You have to be able to visualize the apple in order to enjoy 2D games with representational sprites.

I like the Mega Drive and the pre 1998 systems alot. I've been in need of a new game to play since I finished Wonder Boy in Monster World. If anybody has any recommendations that would be cool

I got to enjoy the SEGA Mega Drive as my 1st console despite growing up in the 2000's because it's the console my dad had and he didn't replace it until it broke in the mid 2000's. I'm fine with that though, because I love this console more than any other. In the following years I got to play other stuff, including a Famicom clone, which was my 1st time owning a Nintendo, and also the PlayStation, which it seems everyone had back then, especially the 2nd one. It was a fun time to grow up, we got to experience the start of the internet as we know it, smartphones and all, but also had contact with cassette tapes and floppy disks too.

I don't care for any home video games before the NES. Arcade games on the other hand are great. Williams churned out banger after banger.

Are you stupid? It released in 1985. Most of the games people actually care about came out well into the late 80s and early 90s after the nes and even snes released.
