What were they thinking?

This looks like something people in the 1970s would think a controller would look like in the 1990s. It was cringe, even when it came out.

It's just between the transition from 2D to 3D games. Since they had to account for maneuvering in both 2D and 3D game worlds they just gave it another grapple point so you can hold it differently depending on control style. It makes sense, whining about this controller makes you look like an idiot

90% of all games use the analog stick. It would have been far more logical to swap it with the d-pad.
