The Kanto Elite Four is both among the hardest and easiest. Hard in that the level scaling is among the highest relative to where you'd be compared to most games. That can be daunting if you didn't properly build a team but still aren;t at a high enough level to wipe out teams with one starter.
But also easy in that you can beat the league with Pokemon around level 45-50. Maybe early 40s, if you plan out well, and its very satisfying to beat the game with minimal grinding outside if trainer encounters. And of course if you really want to cheese it, you can do things like beat Lance with a level 5 Weedle in RB by exploiting the AI. It's among the more satisfying Pokemon games to replay for me for that.

I made up a fake pokemon rule that I'm allowed to delete a TM move off a pokemon and refund myself the TM, which effectively makes it like a weapon in a regular JRPG you can equip or unequip.

I think they would have always made TMs like that if it wouldn't be a huge pain in the ass to handle the UI for it with dozens of pokemon to manage. But it makes it so I can play around with every TM I find without worrying about if the pokemon I use it on is something I'm going to use the whole game

HM slaves are a choice. Not my problem that most people play the game in a way that is unfun to themselves. I just distribute HM moves throughout my team and never had an issue with that. Only thing that's slightly complaint-worthy is the amount of water HMs but at least those are all fairly strong moves so they don't feel like a waste like Flash or Rock Smash tend to.

I would sooner argue that allowing the player to designate a single monster as the sole HM user was the poor design choice, not tying necessary tools to your party members.

Pointing out that you got filtered by the mechanics in a children's game isn't the silver bullet you think it is.

stuff like flash isn't banned because it's trash. Double Team and the like are banned because self evasion buffing can be a bit problematic with few counters, though it probably shouldn't be. Lowering something else's accuracy is generally a poor option from an opportunity cost standpoint both ingame and in competitive. Ingame you can easily 1/2 shot or permanently cripple with status everything so why would you ever waste time with stuff like flash and praying to rngesus. In competitive it does little to advance your game state so there's rarely a point unless it's a bonus on an attack or the pokemon has a super limited movepool

The only real problem with that list is the number of Water HMs, meaning you're obligated to have a Water guy and they're religated to being full of HMs. And even that's only a problem with Gens 2 and 3.
Surf is the best Water move in the game.
Waterfall is *fine*, but always comes after Surf.
Strength is a great Normal move, I don't know how you could call it mediocre.
Cut isn't great, but deals enough damage to not feel like a wasted slot.
Dive is good for the same reason Fly is good.
Flash is a solid debuff that I consistently take to the end of the game.
Rock Smash is okay for dealing early Fighting damage, but falls off real hard.
Defog isn't retro.

yeah, but if the Pokémon you gave it to is still good at that later point (like say, it’s your starter because you’re a dumb kid) then they still have this mediocre move permanently taking up a slot until you can get to the Move Deleter who’s usually only available late game (unless you’re in Gen 1 in which case you’re just fucked). It’s just really annoying I still think having your own Pokémon interact with the environment is better then whatever they doing now. I just wish they figured out a way to do it in a less annoying way before giving up

It really isn't. I still prefer the originals mostly due to that classic Game Boy graphics aesthetics. They should have did more with the remake. I would have liked to seen them add Johto and bring a return of the contests from R/S. Seeing the physical/special split would have also been nice since I dropped being a fan after the third gen games but always liked the idea behind this change in the mechanics since its so logical. Of course this would then mean they cannot milk the games for further remakes so this was never going to be in the cards. But overall these remakes really are not as good as so many of you claim them to be.

Although I totally understand people preferring them since they do fix a lot of the issues. However those issues are a part of the soul of R/B/Y. At this point the only way I could agree with anything replacing the originals is it will have to be a good enough gameplay qol improved romhack that also keeps the look of nothing past G/S/C but with maybe more colors at most.

>RE1
>Bionic Commando
>Metroid Zero Mission
Three better remakes I immediately think of.
