No they were already called Rareware by that point.

I wonder if Rare could have pitched it as a Zelda game

It would have embarrassed Zelda just like DKC embarrassed Mario.

A PS1 game already pulled off Project Dream, ironically enough.
Play Wonder Trek.

Not sure if the gameplay would have been there but it definitely would have been the most visually impressive looking SNES game that didn't rely on polygons.

I think the part at 0:28 where you see shadows being casted on him through the tree leaves was pretty impressive.

The footage looked like it was from a very early tech demo, the enemies don't even attack or move. Probably not even an alpha that had gameplay yet and was just a test/showoff of what kind of graphics they could do.

You realize completely different people tend to work on the art, game design, and programming right? There can be many cases where the gameplay is in a far along state but still using placeholder graphics or where the graphics are nearly finished but the gameplay is still barely past the tech demo stage.

X-Treme was doomed from the start, especially with Senn and Coffin having to work separately to get anything done (nothing was progressed)

I like the setpiece of the giant dinosaur at the end. Funny they used the same idea later in Banjo Tooie.

You know what we call games that finish the art assets first?

Bad fucking games, man. Once you finalize an art asset you're locking yourself into weapon swing timers, walk speeds, and more. Edson swing was finalized even if the gameplay people weren't done, and that combat in the video is something that could never, EVER be made enjoyable.

Trog was an arcade game with claymation assets where the genra and who was even the protagonist and enemy was swapped around during development after art assets had already been mostly made.

These graphics are pretty good but honestly the gameplay looks rough.

Should have made it a turn based RPG instead.

When the protag/enemy and even genra can change AFTER the graphics assets are made that blows your "Once you finalize an art asset you're locking yourself into weapon swing timers, walk speeds, and more." argument out of the water.

Nice forests but that dude and the dog look ugly. Rare shoulda taken the Wizards & Warriors route of putting a full helmet on their stupid human hero character so that you couldn't see his dopey-looking head anymore. As Killer Instinct shows, they just didn't have the right art staff to be drawing human characters. Also the dog should look cool and not retarded.
