There's rogue-like style hacks out there for several games now, like aria of sorrow, Pokémon, live a live, FF6, etc...
But if there's one game that truly needs a roguelike hack, it's mega man battle network. In fact, I'd say the worst one in the series would be the best one to do it to: BN4.
4 is bad because the needle-in-a-haystack easter egg hunting backtracking missions, and the fact that you have to beat the fucking game 6 times (3 times across 2 versions) just to face every boss and get every form. But the gameplay was fucking great, especially all of the awesome forms that are exclusive to the 2 versions. A rogue like hack would cut all the garbage and zero in all of the awesome stuff. There's so many forms, chips, and navicust items to mix that you could get thousands of unique builds across every run.
