Looking to get a budget entry-level upscaler, preferably one that I don't have to fiddle with for hours or spend over $100 on. Has anyone tried this Retro Scaler GBS-C Pro? I'm familiar with the orange GBS-C they sell on Amazon, but this one has an S-Video port that I can probably use on my N64 until I can decide if I wanna mod it or not. Thoughts? Or is this just Aliexpress garbage?

One of the many scalers for the professional market that you can get for the same price or less than this Chinese garbage.

Do you have any recommendations because I can't find anything on people playing retro games on these and they look like they are over $300

Lumagens are a better value and I just snagged one for $115. You have to be a bit patient sometimes. But it's a much better value than some Chinese garbage.

>any TV LCD/LED from over 2 decades have internal upscalers.
>post 2010 LED TV can play games at native resolutions.
is there even a need for this besides the "look i have money to spend!".

Idk bro I'm just trying to play some N64/GameCube/whatever on my TV without it looking like shit. I thought that's what upscalers were for.

>TV settings
>CRT mode
>Disable smart frame pace
>Disable screensaver
>Disable turn off TV after X minutes
done your TV should be able to play any old game, is not that hard unless room temperature IQ.
>But my smart TV doesn't have RGB cable input
buy the newest cheap cables that change output to HDMI.

I would try the retrotink 2x or the clone retroscaler2x. It will put 480p and it could look decent enough and decreasing input lag in your tv.

If you could save more money, look for the retrotink 5x, ossc pro combined with the retrotink 2x or the retrotink 4k. Morph 4k isn't worth it right now, it has shitty 480i deinterlacing.

CRT mode? Smart frame pace? I don't know what kinda TV you have but I don't have those settings on mine. Not to mention I tried one of those HDMI converters for my Gamecube and the picture looked like ass. Like yeah I can play it but if the picture looks terrible I'm not gonna enjoy it.

If you don't want to fiddle around, the "RetroScaler 2X" is a good option. Solid line-doubler to 480p, works with everything and it's like $40. It's a clone of the OG RetroTink, but with some nice improvements. 480p only, but I use it in front of another scaler to "normalize" consoles with off-spec video.

What's your thoughts on the component cables sold on Amazon by BITFUNX or Retro-Bit? Just curious since I got the DOL-001 model with the Digital port

Don't those only do RGB, not composite?
Would be useless for an unmodded N64.

The newer model supports S-Video that I'd just use for the N64 for the time being.

Latereply but not sure. I usually use S-video, specifically Insurrection Industries, and for Wii/PS2 I use HD Retrovision component cables and for OG Xbox I made my own. The only thing about the Retrotink 2x and clones are that they don't allow 480p passthrough, so you have to use 480i or another box for Component. I'd keep away from the HDMI cables, I had nothing but problems with my old Xbox one.
