Is there a budget friendly alternative to the gcomp? I need a switch box badly but $300 is just too much.

You could use composite switchers with stereo audio, 3 RCA plugs are 3 RCA plugs.

I use a $10 8 input composite switcher from aliexpress. I just run component through it using the stereo inputs for video then run the audio separately to a receiver.

There's also cheap component switchers on aliexpress that you could chain together 2 for 5 inputs.

I sound like I'm shilling. You can get that stuff dirt cheap from amazon or whatever too.

I use a Binary B-200-AVMATRIX-6x4. I don't have the remote so I send the serial codes over rs-232 from my PC. Made a little python app, fun to press the buttons on a touch screen.

that's cool as fuck but I wouldn't like needing to leave a screen on to switch video inputs.

Seems like a really nice alternative if you can rig it up like that. They are pretty cheap on ebay

You can find some old ones on eBay made by companies like JVC, they work pretty well but it can be hard to find one with a lot of inputs and if you do find one it might be expensive. You can daisy chain them and that's what I do but some people complain it can impact the video signal. Some sellers aren't aware of what component is and mislabel their listing so using more general terms like "video switcher" can reveal some better deals but there's a lot to sift through.

If you don't mind losing the sync regeneration, automatic switching, and a few less inputs consider a mechanical switch. Amazon has a nice one for just $18USD if you search for "component switch".

However, if you still need some of the features, there's also the gCompSW that is just a 4x1 which only has less inputs as a cost reduced version, and there's even a scalable one that's available now where you can just add inputs/outputs, expanding as you go.

I have one of these.

Much cheaper than $300.

You could buy a cheap 4 way composite/component switch, it's what I use and they work pretty well too
