FF8 had the best airship design in the entire series. I will die on this hill, yes the game was not very good, but the airship design kicked ass.

It felt like FFX-2 was almost trying to copy them, but the "It's a motorcycle but it's actually an airship" concept crosses the line from cool to stupid.

Even FF6's was barely any different, that one was more "A boat with a zeppelin tied to it". It wasn't until 7 that they started making more unique designs. (Though the 9 and 11 went back to the pre-6 designs a little, and FF15 just went Back to the Future, complete with a reference to it the first time you use the "airship")

We're talking about a game where at the end of disk 1 there is a cutscene where the main character gets impaled by a 5-foot-long giant icicle straight through his heart, THEN while still impaled he falls hundreds of feet to his death... and how he somehow not only survived this but also how he had no wound to show for it is never brought up again.

Also a game where everyone in the party somehow had grown up together in the same orphanage, but forgot because of a plot device that is only mentioned once in passing in the beginning as an excuse (and even in-game the characters don't believe the excuse).

Also somehow the method used to keep the sorceress sealed for some reason prevents any and all wireless radio communications... except for when thy are able to figure out a way to transmit wireless radio communications anyway.

And don't even get me started on time compression.

Basically, the game had a cool airship, but it had more holes it's the plot than a colander and sloppy writing.

Rule of Cool does not apply when everyone in the game acts like it should have killed him too, and then later even brings attention to this fact. To the point where it sprung a bunch of autists who think the entire game after that part is actually just a dying hallucination. The nonsensical ending didn't help matters either.

That game is so ugly. Final Fantasy's visual design dropped into the toilet as soon as Square embraced optical discs and 3D graphics. Aside from a few bright spots here and there (Vivi, Steiner, and Lulu, for example), it's mostly garbage until FF12 (or maybe 11, according to what little I've seen of that game) arrives. And then FF13 looks awesome and throws the story in the toilet instead. Gotta have at least one fundamental game element in the toilet, apparently.

It had an nteresting spin on the leveling system, large amount of missable secrets. The card game was nice as cards could be used in refining items for junction. There's also a fantastic soundtrack and visuals, a huge leap from Lego FFVII.
We've been going through that idiotic "plot hole" retardation for years, even though anyone who played the game start to finish, knows what transpired and why.
They could make Rinoa a bit easier on the eyes, though.

The worst thing is that XV looks and plays like another WoW-like MMO. The unique feeling and touch of Final Fantasy series ended with the release of Lightning gaymes. It all went tumbling down since then. And I'm not even talking about turn based combat, even though it's one of the important, talking points.

Because that design is uncreative and lame. It's literally just a wooden ship with propellers on it. Look at that thing, it even has an anchor on it! What for? It's not like it's a blimp that would remain airborne so you would have to moor it to something. I would have assumed it was so it can function as an actual boat on water too but then there is that door on the bottom which would make that impossible without making it take in water.

Come to think of it, how would that thing even land? It's bottom is not flat and it has no landing gear. It can't land on flat land and it can't land on water. It's an uncreative mess.

It had a spin but I wouldn't call it interesting, more like made it pointless. What's the point of leveling if enemies level up with you? I also would not call missable secrets a good thing. If you don't know to draw a summon from the first boss you miss out on the ability to lower the encounter rate until the end of the game, where it will be useless by that point. The card game was broken due to it's idiotic random rule that would propagate everywhere and heavily handicap you while not effecting NPCs. Junction was braindead stupid, on top of needing to have "stock" of magic spells, it made it so you basically weaken yourself every time you cast one of said spells.

I played the game through, it was full of plot holes, anyone claiming otherwise is just being a contrarian to give the illusion of being intelligent for going against the grain, such as >>11803735

Because you are a zoomer who never wants to play a game more than once, you only play games to check them off a list and move on to the next chore for your Oldskool Gamer Cred
>If you don't know to draw a summon from the first boss you miss out on the ability to lower the encounter rate until the end of the game
One, yes you were expected to actually engage with the unique mechanics of the game like Draw. Obviously if you can draw magic from enemies, then bosses would have the best magic to draw and big ???? on their magic list is your signal that you really want that one. Catering to literal retards like you with zero initiative to explore a game but still feels entitled to be handed everything in it is why modern games are shit.
Two, Diablos gives the Enc Half/None abilities, not Siren.
>The card game was broken due to it's idiotic random rule that would propagate everywhere
Only if you spread it and you can reverse it if you want. That would take engaging with the game to know though.
>Junction was braindead stupid, on top of needing to have "stock" of magic spells, it made it so you basically weaken yourself every time you cast one of said spells.
You needed a stock of magic spells in the first game as well.
Oh no, your stat goes down one point for every 5 spells you cast. The game is ruined. Fuck you little shit heads are so averse to even the concept of trade-offs and choices. FFVIII has one of the softest most forgiving trade-off systems imaginable and STILL it mindbreaks you.

I did engage with it, and it sucked ass. There is a reason it was never used again in the FF series

All that's required to spread it is playing against someone who knows it, which unless you knew ahead of time you would not know to avoid. After that you are essentially infected and spread it to others. This also does not excuse that it's a stupid fucking rule in the first place that severely handicaps you.

The Squall is dead thing is just stupid, even stupider are people who actually believe it instead of seeing it as a piss take. Yes, sure, Squaresoft made a game where secretly at about the 10-20% mark your main character dies and the entire rest of the game you are actually just in a death coma where nothing will ultimately matter anyway.

>>11804374
>It gives you more abilities to use with more strategies and setups.
First of all, it doesn't help when you still can just use the same strategy of generally just mash attack as before. Second, who the hell treats every random encounter as a boss fight that they have to slowly strategize? It's a random encounter, other than the occasional trick enemy they are just fodder getting in your way.
>Oh you mean like Materia was also never used again?
Materia was not much different from the general "Equip something to gain an ability then level it up" mechanic, FF9 had this with the AP system
>They tell you the fucking ruleset before you start a game, you can just say no.
1. Unless you knew the rule would fuck you over ahead of time you would have just said yes, because you was constantly getting new rules
2. Doesn't change the fact that the rule should have never gotten past playtesting

>It's called "random", what did you assume it did?
It's called playtesting, what do you assume that is for? It's so they can see that it's a stupid idea before putting it in the final game since anyone who has actually been collecting cards like most players would want to and even be encouraged to do would be at a massive disadvantage since most cards are shit while the NPCs only have a small pool of cards to choose from. Yeah well you can get a million niggers to repeat the wrong thing, but you will still be niggers and you will still be wrong.

Weren't you on the float fighting her when he fell off? That's like 3 feet. When I got to this part I actually looked up where the "Squall is dead" theory is supposed to start and it was this? I didn't believe people made theories about this moment. This shit is common for FF. Cid in IV fell out of an airship and exploded and he was just fine.
I was more shocked when Selphie gets fucking nuked. I'm still waiting on how they explain her surviving that.

Yeah but even as a lunatic, Joker's usual shtick of a suit fits with that anachronistic mid 20th century Gotham is usually stuck in. Just like how Kefka still looks like a fantasy character.

The Albed are hethans! They never think. The faithful of Yevon ride only choboco. Sin will punish them for their crimes.

I didn't think it was that deep, but yeah Auron's (and Jecht's) plan basically took down an entire religion and culture and ruling class in one fell swoop.

ffx bahamut slamming down and crossing his arms across his chest is the coolest thing in the entire franchise thoughever
nothing against the other more generic dragon designs of previous bahamuts but that's exactly what makes FFX bahamut so cool, he's like a dragon but also a dude
100% gigachad

just one of thousands of elements in every design aspect of FFX that creates an amazing consistent and immersive world unlike any other FF
I love the settings of other FFs too but spira is on a whole other level
