Why did Philips make Luigi openly xenophobic in Hotel Mario?

Japanese character based on Italian-americans and historically either of them prefer working with their own people over people outside of their own communities. Generally when they relied on outsiders they got...burned.

Both also had slavery. Italian Americans not so much but Italians and Americans definitely did.

Philips was based in Eindoven, and during WWII they cooperated with Nazis and helped to develop a lot of the "German" tech during that era. You might not know this but based Nazi scientists invented the Compact Disc.

Philips moved during the war to legally be in the Netherlands Antilles. CDs were also based off of Laserdisc optical disc technology invented by Americans in the 1950s, and they weren't German scientists brought over either.

On topic

I'm pretty sure these were developed by ESLs who wanted to bash out a working product with cutscenes that showed off CDI hardware nona. Hotel Mario is not exactly a plot driven game.

The idea was invented in America but it was perfected by Nazi scientists from the Netherlands. If you look at the American guy's work it kinda petered out.

Hotel Mario was actually developed in the United States. Russians who drew cartoons for Zelda games had no involvement in Mario games. Philips actually had multiple separate divisions working on CD-i software titles. Some were operating under PolyGram, an international music label wholly owned by Philips, which eventually became Universal Music Group after a series of sales and mergers in 2000s.

Philips had to develop a lot of the CD-i titles themselves because for whatever reason it was apparently very hard and expensive to become a CD-i developer at first. Eventually the platform ended up with more pharmaceutical sales pitches and kiosk-ware than games or educational stuff.

If the CD-i wasn't delayed so long video gaming might look very different today.

No, this man led the team that developed the CD, he wasn't a Nazi.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Ottens

A lot of the people who worked on Nazi science projects weren't committed Nazis either, even von Braun just joined the Party because he was more or less ordered to if he wanted to continue working on rockets.

>>11803337
I couldn't find any info about the developers but I could only find that they were hired by Philips and that was about it.

It would have been a much better product it it had been released in the late 80s as planned.

I think that at least 5% of Redump's CD-i full set is discs advertizing new cars from Volvo.

I know I'm fucking with you. But the Nazis were indeed foundational to the Philips lab at Eindoven, they funded the shit out of it and after the war they had a pretty easy time there too.

>It would have been a much better product it it had been released in the late 80s as planned.
Yeah they missed the boat. They tried the whole 'tease the idea and see how much buzz was generated' trick that big companies sometimes do and by the time they really got going it was too late.

Some of that software is actually kind of fun. I have a CD-i with the MPEG board. I even have the cd-remote type controller with the joystick, I like it. CD-i's make good CD players too, mechanism is bombproof and they have nice DACs.

He's not, as this is Luigi's fourth adventure against the Koopas, so he's well versed in the family's deceitful nature.

And at no point does Mario, the supposed good brother, point out to Luigi that adverse socioeconomic factors and institutional discrimination play a large role in the behavior of Koopas.

His Italian lineage is rooted in Roman noticing tactics, obviously. Romans were masters of noticing. They dealt with koopa like civilizations that other societies kicked out. Luigi is keen to the lies of the koopa.
