Why didn't they just port (Mr) Gimmick to SNES and/or Genesis instead of leaving it to die unknown on NES? I mean, it even looked like a SNES game.

I’m pretty sure the director wanted to prove he could make a game that compared to the quality of ones on 16 bit consoles with older hardware. Additionally, the game originally received mediocre reception and Sunsoft had no faith in it.

yeah it only came to scandinavia
there's an "official" sequel developed by some scandinavian dudes. its kinda meh, more of a screen by screen puzzle platformer

Its just called Gimmick 2. You can find it on Steam. It came out in 2024, so definitely not in the scope of this board, though.

I've seen the sequel on one of the speedrun marathon streams and it looked damn dreadful, no understanding what made the original work so well. Cheap looking, overly focused on puzzling and really stretched out. Whoever was in charge of the EXACT MIX remake would've done an infinitely better job.
