Would it have killed SEGA to print more copies? Assholes.

isn't this game really overrated, the rarity of the game makes people believe it's somehow some incredible game when really its just yet another jrpg.

It's pretty unique for a jrpg, but I've only played a little bit of it. It definitely gets a bit of overratedness due to it being rare, but it's got enough there to be held in high esteems by Saturn fags.

I do think it's a bit overrated due to it's rarity, but I wouldn't say it's just another jrpg. Not many JRPGs are a mix of rail-based shmup and turn-based battles.

One type I went to a pawn shop and the clerk was proudly telling me how he owned this game. This was a decade when it was already rare and expensive.
I did not answer and gave a face like I did not give a fuck.

>Sega planned for Panzer Dragoon Saga to compete with the PlayStation RPG Final Fantasy VII, believing that having the best RPG would win the console war, and aimed to sell 1.5 million copies.
> Sega initially produced only 20,000 North American copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga. After these sold out in two days, a few thousand more were produced. In Europe, only around 1,000 copies were made.
>Yokohama attributed the low sales to the creative spirit of the team, who were not interested in creating a mainstream product. The localizer Matt Underwood speculated that the post-apocalyptic setting, the "polar opposite" of Final Fantasy, had been off-putting to players.

I really wish there were more JRPGs with non-anime aesthetics.

They didn't expect it to be a hit because it bombed in Japan hard.

>isn't this game really overrated
No, it's actually a great game. One of the best looking 3d on the system, with full 3d movement on both land and while flying in the air. Gameplay is a bit unique in that you can -select- what you want to look at with a targeting cursor, and battles are centered around being able to fly around enemies to take advantage of weak points, or dodge enemy attacks (moving, basic attack and item usage is 1 turn, magic is 2 turns, special moves are 3 turns, enemies can also move or charge specials etc). You can morph your dragon on a XY axis to give it different strengths/weaknesses, like bump speed up to 200% at the cost of defense being 0, or do the same with attack power versus magic power.
It also has a HUGE in-game encyclopedia so you have shit ton of lore to read if you like.

The best part is that the game is paced in a way that you basically never need to grind at any point, even if you go for the secret/hidden enemies. You can sit back and enjoy the game. The biggest challenge is trying to get max rank on enemy fights (the bestiary logs your best battle result for each enemy).

Ending is also a huge mindfuck. The protagonist dies at the beginning, the power that reanimates him, the divine will that characters worship all throughout the game for controlling their destiny, is YOU, THE PLAYER.

It physically pained SOA to localize any Japanese game, they must have only printed 9 copies of Shining in the Holy Ark.

For me, I always liked how cartoony the sprites for Vandal Hearts looked. I think it's the noses, it makes me think of some edgy 70's cartoon done by an ex-hippy more than an anime.
>>11811553
The fashion sense looks "anime", or 00's Japanese. The art style, for me, doesn't.
Some people say that Street Fighter 2 doesn't look like anime, even though I could always tell it had a Japanese look to it.
It's a weird descriptor that depends on who's saying it. Personally I don't think SMT Nocturne looks anime, even though it probably is more than Street Fighter.

You could make the argument especially considering Zwei is simply a superior game but doesn't get nearly as much praise nowadays but Saga has a lot going for it.
>>11806972
You should finish it, it's pretty short for a 5th gen rpg, I think I finished it in about 15 hours.

There were some tedious exploration aspects I didn't like, like finding all three protect keys in the Uru region and having to grind through random battles as I'm exploring a map that mostly looks the same except for a few landmarks.

The Saturn failed OP. We are also like 30 years out at this point from the release of the Saturn so why even care about this anymore? Is it because you want to buy it and not have to play an inferior emulation of the game?

Would be a cool game to play but I can live with never playing it. I never got into this franchise at all. I'm sure the games were quality but I just never really got into them. They just need to provide us good emulated versions of their classic games is all and not keep pulling shit from these stores to sell us inferior demake ports like they did with Sonic of all fucking things.

There's a subset of Americans and Bongs who see any kind of drawn artwork and think "anime".
