Transitioning into 3d worlds and taking away tank controls removed all the soul of the first two games. The game feels like shit now and the stupid frenchies whip sucks to use, I just want a goddamn sword the whole game. Also no option to turn the language into Japanese and get rid of the awful dub. This game is an overrated turd.

You're on the wrong board kid. The tank controls in Onimusha 1 make it feel like a unique stand out from all the other samurai sword games on the ps2 and a great cousin of classic RE games just like Dino Crisis was. Taking away the tank controls took away what made the series special. If you're too retarded for tank controls thats on you zoomie.

Generally I would agree but I still love Onimusha 3 whereas I think 2 is awful.

The chain critting is awesome, the next logical step after the crits of the first game. Also I love the locations, living in France myself slaying demons in the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower and the Mont St Michel is pretty awesome. Last time I went to these places I was thinking of the game and imagining the demons. Fun fact: it's the same place in the SotN cover, so I suppose SotN, Onimusha 3 and The Walking Dead Dary Dixon spin-off all take place in the same universe

what made onimusha special was being a samurai running around killing demons who are making contracts with real historical figures like nobunaga and toyotomi.
if you think tank controls are what made it special, you're irredeemably autistic.
I've beaten onimusha over a dozen times, collected all fluorite, cleared every floor of the dark realm, opened every ogre password box, pandanosuke runs, you name it. I've done it on PS2 original hardware and on the re-release that ditched the tank controls.
it's better without them because tank controls suck shit. they have always sucked shit. there's a reason every franchise that ever used them ditched them as time went on.

> there's a reason every franchise that ever used them ditched them as time went on.

That reason is standardization and casualization in a video game world where every game needs to control the same.
Getting rid of variety is not a good thing.

It's just a bot. Saw the words "tank controls" and posted its canned, shit-stirring response.
Don't engage with it.

the historical context has nothing to do with what makes onimusha good, thats fucking retarded. onimusha has as much story as a fucking NES castlevania game.

onimusha 1 is great because its a capcom developed RE-adjacent action game with moody pre-rendeded backgrounds and ambience with that Capcom polish and amazing RE style sound design. 2 and 3 completely miss the point of what made 1 good at all.

theres something very off about them, like they were added in last minute, the game isnt designed around them like the first.

NTA but there are some modern horror games which would simply not be as good as they are without tank controls. I love tank controls but kind of agree with you that they are shit...for action games like Onimusha. I booted up the first two Onimusha games recently for the first time in 20 years and I was really impressed by how much fun they are. However, when compared to a particular modern dueling rhythm game that shant be named, I could not help but ponder the limitations while playing.

It really truly is RE but with swords and demons, and for that alone, I love it. I don't think that it would be possible to make something as satisfying as the dueling rhythm simulator while still using fixed angles and tank controls.

/vr/fags need to stop pretending tank controls are good for imageboard credit. it's cancer
and I usually never say something from an old videogame is outdated or needs remake, but tank controls have never been good in history of gaming

To be fair, it takes a fairly high IQ to understand tank controls.
