Do you think it's worth it to buy a joystick to play old games like Wing Commander? Or can you get pretty much the same experience using the analog stick on a controller?

It's just more fun with a stick, it isn't a requirement.

What's the best joystick to buy for 6-degrees-of-freedom games like Descent? I tried playing it with a mouse and keyboard and it just didn't work for me.

If you have the room why the fuck not. It's not like they're expensive. I've always wanted to get sticks and wheels but I don't have the room for it

Are there any sticks that are affordable, have yawing control, and works on a wide range of old and modern games?

If you reply to me with a 200 dollar stick I'm hiding your post.

The Saitek Aviator is good and affordable. Easily found on ebay since it's long out of production.
