Its fair imo. It was the systems best game. I had a Turbo growing up and I actually did like the games but it lost in the west for good reason. Genesis and SNES were just simiply much better. However Rondo is definitely one of the best games of the 16-bit era so its good that the system is known for having at least one of the best games of the era and it was at the time exclusive to it. A disc based game but still. If shitters didn't care for Splatterhouse, Bonk or the shmups that is their problem. The console was decent overall.

It just proves that consoles can fail for the stupidest reasons even if they are really good. In this case the nes looking controller probably made it look like too 8 bit, they probably got out early enough to not lose too much money in America. Makes you think why not just try in Europe, they already made the machines are were ready to go but 64k of vram was pretty expensive in 87 and 89.
Technically I think it has the highest potential of the 3 in some areas if you just judge the whole image instead of counting pixels and layers.
I still think Saturn is the worst blunder of a system that could have done better.

Europe wasn't "a" market back then, it was a lot of small markets. Even Nintendo did not implement itself in Europe at that time, instead several distributors made deals to release the NES to this or that country. I think only Sega had to guts to implement itself in Europe early on but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If you count the CD add-on and all the expansion ram chips, the library is insane, as long as you get past the language barrier. Lots of good RPGs, shooters, visual novels and adventure games. The platformer selection was weak compared to Genesis, NES and SNES.

Sapphire is a technical marvel.

I also had turbo and to be honest, I didn't like quite a large number of the games I had and I had over thirty of them. I always went back to the same dozen or so. Darkwing Duck, for example, was just fucking awful. Still, better than my Lynx. I only had one game for that I liked, Chip's Challenge. Viking Child? Awful. Blue Thunder/Lightning/Whatever? Terribad. California Games? Poopshits. Toki? Amiga-tier garbage. Klax? Not really any different than any other release of it so why play that one? Ninja Gaiden? The absolute worst version of the game ever. It wasn't even actually NG. It played more like the OG arcade Shinobi meets Streets of Rage, which sounds good but it just wasn't.

Got one of these and a flashcart without knowing anything about it and have really enjoyed it. If you get one, you're pretty much guaranteed to figure out shmups and enjoy them, but that's not all it has. The duo model is a fun fixer upper project too with some neat mods. The bass is filtered out of the music on the duo so you gotta replace a couple of ceramic caps to fix that. Next time I get it out I'll have to get started on neutopia 2

I was actually fairly spoiled with games and consoles in hindsight. Which wasn't really the smartest thing for my mother to do since we weren't rich either. But I also had a large amount of games for it. Don't know if it was as much as you but I know for a face I definitely had at least 20 games for it.

I do get what you mean. The console overall did feel inferior to Genesis and SNES I won't deny that. However it was also meant to be a competitor to the NES not the other two necessarily even though it ended up being exactly that. If we look at it as a competitor to the NES I think it definitely stacks up fairly well. It just ultimately still loses even to the NES due to not getting enough good games shipped over nor support. I honestly liked the console and have a very fond nostalgia for it and I do miss it. Its one console I wish my mother never convinced me to get rid of. I miss it even more than the Saturn which I actually do not regret handing down to a friend at all. If only parents knew how valuable all this shit would end up being years later when you have people willing to spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars for certain retro games.

Are there any games you did like for it? It may sound like bait but I actually even enjoyed games like China Warrior as a child. I always liked the big sprites and general weirdness of the game. A lot of people who didn't grow up with these earlier consoles don't really understand that back then this stuff was all brand new to us and there wasn't too much else to look back on if anything at all. So something like China Warrior was very novel and unique to me. Don't think I ever beat that game. But the system definitely had its fair share of decent to good games. The Legendary Axe is definitely a great game for it as well imo.

>Are there any games you did like for it?
Absolutely. Where would you get the idea I didn't? I loved Jackie Chan, New Adventure Island, Soldier Blade, Shockman, Order of the Griffin (which I discovered a useful glitch for that seems to not be listed anywhere, likely because literally no one cares about D&D games), Parasol Stars, Pacland (I even not only beat the game from start to end, but got the alternate coloured, weird world in it, which was similar to the SMW things after Star Road), Final Lap Twin, that tennis game that's like Final Lap Twin, Neutopia 2 (I never actually owned the first lmao), Cadash (best home version), Zonk, Buster Bros, Boxyboy, Somer Assault, Magical Chase (lucky me!) and I think that's it for the ones I liked. How many is that? 16?
I had several others that just weren't good or were style over substance. I really really really didn't like Samurai Ghost, for example. Slow moving and boring.
My brother also had an import PC-Engine with CD. I'm the guy who sneaked neighbourhood kids into my brother's room to show them Rondo after Symphony came out cuz they didn't believe me that Richter was not only from his own game but that it was a Japanese exclusive and that there was a copy of it at my house. I used to break into his room all the time to play vidya so besides my Turbo games, I had access to PX-Engine games back then, too.

AI Overview says 138 games were officially released in North America. So as said earlier the console simply didn't get enough support in the US. It did fairly well in Japan for its time though from what I read. Had a whole lot more games released as well obviously.

>Absolutely. Where would you get the idea I didn't?
I didn't assume anything. I figured there were some things you liked and I just was curious to know since this is a thread about the TurboGrafx-16 aka PC Engine. By the way according to wikipedia the console had 678 commercial releases. So NA really got shafted as far as games. We just didn't get enough of Turbo here unfortunately.

It had a lot of games, but the biggest ones that appealed to Japan are Japan only. It also had a lot of PC-98 ports, so you can experience those games with CD audio on a home console.

Due to language barrier, 85% of the PCE's best games can't be experienced by outsiders, since they're so text heavy.

Whether these are GOOD games or not is up to you. You more or less have to like the genre. Very few of the games are true classics like Rondo, more like niche titles and niche genres.

Lapace no Ma PCE-CD is much closer to the PC-98 original and includes first person exploration. the Super Fami version is top down like final fantasy or Dragon Quest. No clue why they're so different, but first person dungeon crawlers seem more visually appealing to me.

you're correct but i find this one funny because its not drastically better than the genesis version, when the colors are washed out, the sound is worse, the controls don't have diagnonal inputs and the difficulty is much harsher (9 credits max, lacking checkpoints). you would think 1941 or aldynes would be the "X game" of the supergrafx
