Name what you think is the most underrated game ever.

It's Super Mario 64 with better combat, a darker atmosphere, and more cryptic missions to collect wraith hearts (stars)

I reckon Secret of Evermore is way better than Secret of Mana, but Secret of Mana usually gets all the praise.

I really wanna play this shit again. I remember it feeling so cool and mysterious and scary as a kid and playing it with my brother. I also thought he was Wolverine.
The very little else I've seen since then has made it looked cringe(the condom) but I wanna see it for my own again.

There's something about this game that's addicting for me.

Clever puzzle game starring Mario and Luigi. Bonus stages. Secrets. 100 different levels, start on whichever level you feel like, or make your own fucking custom levels in 1985 on an NES cart. Ahead of its time, yet forgotten.

I don't know about most underrated game ever but more Castlevania fans need to play Actraiser 2

Also Game&Watch Squish, and maybe Lost Eden.

This actually is THE single most injusticed game in the universe.

>Astonishing graphics and sprite art
>Unique levels / open-ish overworld
>11/10 OST
>Character has a moveset more varied than 90% of fighting games characters at the time
>Incredibly difficult but awesome once you find out what moves to use at what time

To think it went directly into the trash of history because "muh city building from the 1st one", such a shame.

It's not that. It's the difficulty and controls/move-set you mentioned. Instantly filters 99% of players. I gave each of the first levels you could play a few tries and could not beat the boss in any of them.

I hate to sound cliche, but taking out the city stuff from the original completely killed all interest I had in the game. I don't know if the platforming is way better in 2, but it wasn't really a big draw in the first game.

That's part of the "thing".
The actual first boss, you can beat with two "up" spells in like 4 seconds.
But to figure the entire game on your own can take a hellish long time lol

The city building was honestly kinda shitty or not really that in-depth. Same thing as the city building in Dark Cloud.

For 1991 it certainly wasn't shitty. Now replaying it for the first time it's fun until you get to a certain part and realize it's not really city building. There is a predetermined grid that everyone will end up getting to. That takes away some of the magic, admittedly but at that point the game is almost over and it's still fun. What really sucks the fun out of it is the boss rush at the end. What an unfun slog.

That's really what I mean by shitty. Its more like a mini-game rather then any actual meaningful city building elements. Same thing with Dark Cloud. I wish a sequel had actually built upon the idea in a meaningful way, like you build a city and act as the guardian of it and when enemies attack it, you actually get to go down and fight in the city you built as stage pieces and you could do stuff like build shrines that boost your power or traps you can activate.

I get you. I wouldn't call it shitty by any means though. I didn't play it myself when it came out, but until the mid 2000s. I loved playing it and thought it was better than I was lead to believe back then. Overrated now? Yeah a bit, but it's still a unique experience and the graphics and music are great and timeless. I'd play it again.

Awesome looking Nobunaga there

The city building was super bland and basic in 1 imo. There is almost no leeway, no freedom given to the player on how to handle things too, which imo is the draw of city builders.

It has a very rough learning curve but once you give the game a real chance and learn the moveset and how to use it well, you'll realize how good the game is. You could always try to make the easy difficulty at first though you won't get the real ending
Protip: like in many action games, enemy collision is deactivated when they're flashing after a hit but in this game it's very forgiving and you can hit them again before it reactivates if timed just right

I hate to admit but Willy Wombat is pretty cool to me. It would've gotten a cult following if they decided to bring it over to the west.

I'm very surprised that Kamiwaza: Way of the Thief never took off with Western audiences. It's basically Thief + Shenmue/Yakuza, and it even has an HD rerelease. It seems like the kind of thing internet people would love.

It's hardly an obscure pick but I feel like it's still a real shame it didn't catch on as more of a series the way Suikoden did.
