Is playing the original release on Super Gameboy better-looking than the GBC re-release?

I think so.
1) some of the finer graphical details are simplified even in GB mode in the GBC re-release
2) the re-release's GBC mode honestly isn't that great, it feels phoned in and your save file is locked to that mode for no good reason, so you have to DELETE YOUR ENTIRE SAVE if you want to play in the other mode (this is so retarded)
3) game was clearly developed for SGB primarily and there are all sorts of cool and unique borders for each area.

I think I vaguely recall seeing someone raise the point about how the SGB version compliments the spritework better in general, like some backgrounds or such were kinda worsened by the GBC edition? But I don't remember specifics.

Also it's a shame that none of the decensor hacks work on the original release, only on the GBC version..

Does the color version have the same borders/enhancements when played on the SGB?

Yes, though the sprite data (plus an enemy or two i think?) that was truncated would still be missing, regardless of which mode you played it in.
Also if you apply any romhacks, they usually overwrite the B&W/SGB data, so that mode then becomes unplayable.

I love this game. It saddens me I cannot find my copy anymore. I hope somehow its been stored away in a place I haven't looked and it didn't somehow get thrown away. I never played through the first game or VB ones though.

One thing I like about these WL games is they all went for something completely different yet all of them came out good. I assume the ones I haven't played were good as well. I do kind of wish though that WL4 maintained the invincibility mechanic from 2 and 3. It suits the character to have this going on.

Shake It typically gets seen as "It's Wario Land 4 With Tilt Control Gimmicks", but it usually falls north of the "At Least It's Not Master of Disguise" tier.
