Is the information in Captain Novalin even accurate? It's telling you to eat sugar and carbohydrates and drink milk which is full of lactose which is also sugar.

With t1d you have to match your insulin injections with the carbs you eat. Your body needs some carbs to function. But eating too many carbs is just dumb, no diabetic should be eating cereal - that's straight sugar.
Milk isn't that bad at all, almost negligible. A better recommendation would be eggs and an tomato with an English muffin.
I have t1d but haven't played the game so I can't say for sure.

Cereal and milk is kind of a garbage food in general IMO. Either it tastes like cardboard and it's boring to eat, or it has added flavor (usually lots of sugar), and it's plain like eating a bowl of candy.
Egg on toast is the superior breakfast.

>>11810907
Carbs in excess isn't good in general, but this game is specifically about diabetes, and diabetics must watch their intakes pretty closely.

So?

I guess that just invalidates the fact that the white european race built the entire civilized world while drinking milk, because prof. schlomostein taught you SACCHARIDES BAD!

As a blue eyed nord / dane with t1d I've got to tell you something. There is a distinct correlation between lactase persistance genes and the genes that attack your pancreas for T1D (which this game is about). Every group that developed lactase persistence also developed high rates of T1D. Just a thought for any biochemists out there. I take Novolog injections every day to stay alive, thanks, Cpt Novolin.

I literally got told by a black doctor about 60 to find another doc because he had never seen a t1d and insulin is deadlier than heroin. Yo I need that shit to live, the doc took my copay but didn't know how to treat my condition. Clown world.

At least 2 hours a day, as much skin exposure as you can.

See a doctor obviously. You might have something basic and normal that you'd never think of and that they actually know how to fix. Come back to the weirdo online forums for alternative approaches only if that fails.

My bloodwork seems to be fine, was tested for vitamin D levels as well which also came back fine, even a bit on the higher side. My white and red bloodcell counts are both on the low end of their respective scales, 3.4 and 4.5 respectively, but the doctor seemed to dismiss it as being nothing to worry about.

For type 1 diabetes you test for sugars and ketones in urine. Type 1 and type 2 are totally different diseases type 1 is real, you just get it and you can't make insulin and then you die. Type 2 is you ate too many goddamn cookies and your body now rejects sugar.
They are completely different diseases and I'm fucking pissed that they share the same name. I can die in seconds on type 1 stuff.

No itโ€™s true, if you eat too much and go into hyperglycemia in real life, you just die and thereโ€™s nothing you can do but restart the level.

You die in minutes if you inject too much insulin, but hyperglycemia from too many carbs usually takes a few days or weeks to kill you from DKA.

actual doctor here. agree with this anon, just go see a doctor, and probably get a better PCP. yours sounds like garbage. an RBC number doesn't tell the full story of your blood cells (theres a full panel like iron, ferritin, transferrin, etc)but thats low enough you have some kind of anemia, which could explain some fatigue

when it comes to routine annual bloodwork, most doctors don't even order an insulin. there's a ratio score called the HOME_IR score that compares your insulin vs glucoseto see how insulin resistant you are.

but you should at least be getting glucose and A1c. an a1c of 5.7-6.5 is technically "pre-diabetic" but its a big fat warning sign to get it under control. metformin is cheap and easy to tolerate (maybe mild diarrhea for some patients). ideally, A1c should be monitored several times a year

vitamin D deficiency is a dime a dozen, everyone has it, its easy to fix with proper supplementation. most people are also deficient in magnesium.

Shitty doctors are a real problem. I had a doc and nurse suggest that my occasional serious difficulties to be able to breathe was "just a sore throat."
Turned out, no, my throat wasn't sore, and the problem kept persisting, I had actually grown allergic to the cat I was living with, only the fourth doc had thought to test me for any allergies.
