The 5th time is pretty short and simple before you get characters you already level up-ed to join

While not bad quality wise, this was the beginning of the end of the jarpigs. Stories that take several dozen hours before they "get good" with a gameplay devoid of any strategy, exploration and depth. JRPG screenshot collage fag can suck my dick

He's right though. Overly story-laden RPGs were a downgrade of the formula.

This game having AI-controlled party is probably the most garbage shit anyone's ever thought up for a JRPG btw
The games are already fairly unengaging, WHY would you take even more control away?

So do you do F!Priest and M!Wizard or M!Priest and F!Wizard?
And don't say F!Priest and F!Wizard that's not allowed.

I don't know why you say that, it's only the masterpiece that is DQ2 that I'll defend to the death, DQ4 is "only great" by comparison.

The idea of being a general in control of your army was good on paper, and it's actually pretty amazing how much the AI can learn for an NES game, but the execution is a bit lacking in the sense that most players are just going to pick 3 other guys as main rather than using everybody and switching often like the devs wanted. Unironically Akuma-Kun, an anime licensed RPG by Bandai, did the whole "general in charge of your small army" better than DQ4.

Anyway there is a gameshark code to be in control of your party in the last chapter however it takes away the possibily to switch characters mid fight.

Game Genie lets you take control of your characters. Take the power.

Too bad remakes keep the Priest spamming insta-kill spells that never work as an intentional joke that the series loves to reference in spin-offs.
