This just came out on PSN. Is it worth it for someone who's never played Deus Ex before? Also, how's the PS2 port of Max Payne?

Please feel free to use this thread to discuss any PC games that were ported to the PS2.

Good because of the better character models, cinematics and controller comfiness.
If you don't care about these factors, just play on PC using the GMDX mod.

No, they're both shit. Play the PC versions.

>other PC games ported to PS2
I can't think of any that are better on PS2. But some are not distributed anymore and were made for old Windows, so then, the PS2 version might be better in those cases even if it's slightly worse because of ease of use and not having to deal with Windows issues

Because the game is legendary and it doesn't need """better""" character models (read:worse)
Meanwhile, Max Payne is not a controller game. It asks you to do some serious gunkata that feels way better on M&K. It's also a hard game

No. Due to console limitations areas are smaller and filled with walls in Deus Ex. Trying to walk in a straight line during the dream sequences in Max Payne 2 with a controller is a nightmarish experience. Just play the PC versions; they are easy enough to get for cheap or free and will run on a toaster.

Max Payne 1 isn't a particularly good port.
Max Payne 2 is essentially a demake of the PC version in a much much worse engine
Like it's not actually a port at all. Instead they re-created the entire game using tech from the first game, and this being the early 2000's the difference in tech between the PC versions of MP1 and MP2 is huge.

Is it serious that the console version of max payne is that bad? I know that the console aim is clearly not console based. Since it doesn't adjust and the camera is too far away, the mouse aim is superior. Something they “fixed” in their non-retro games where the camera is close, control is tanky. magnetic aiming, precise aiming is bad and cqc is encouraged.

Deus Ex & Max Payne 1-2 work on pretty much any functioning pc you can find (yes you need fixes but in terms of pc specs) + you get to play different mods. Haven't played DE ps2 port but MP1-2 are seriously inferior even at the time they were released. They had to remake the games with ultra low graphics and still split some levels in half etc.

I recall reading that MP2 (not sure about MP1) on ps2 were made using the vice city / manhunt engine and it just didn't end up impressive.. I have to check what they used to port MP1 but possibly the same engine too because the ps2 port came a little bit later and they had the vice city engine at hand. It's kind of interesting to think that back in those days there was very little crossplatform development so every game basically had to be made from a scratch on every platform and it just imitates the original.

The console Max Payne ports have like zero aim assist or ADS/zoom slow so they play pretty terribly.

I plan on playing PS2 Deus Ex this year, never played the PC version. Apparently it's dumbed down in a couple areas, but improved in others, and still has all the bones that made the game good

Played fine for me on Xbox. As someone who used a controller for 28 years, it's not a herculean feat to aim at people. Especially in slow motion with super powers.

DO NOT use the GMDX mod, it has extensive and sometimes questionable gameplay changes, it's an overhaul best reserved for a second playthrough.
Instead just install Kentie's Launcher and then pick one from Chris Dohnal's OpenGL or d3d9 renderers. Note that if you are using the GOTY version you should also install the Deus Ex Maps Patch since for some reason the GOTY release shipped with an older version of some maps.

Yeah I don't give a shit. I forgot it was called Anime/Random, boo fucking hoo, it still existed primarily for PORN. The first dispute, within the week of the site going up, was over 4chan almost getting dropped from its provider for guro and lolikon.
The only actual stated intention in making it by moot at the time was to have @4chan.net as his email address.
>>11816241
>"m-moot said"
>posts wikipedia
The wikipedia page is one that has since been severely edited to include a lot that wasn't there 20 years ago and that line about how it exists to "discuss anime and manga" is just made up by the wikipedia editor.
The only citation that should be relevant is the one to the 4chan FAQ which does not say that. At all.
The second citation, a fucking Irish Times article of all things, also doesn't say that.
The final article is a Forbes one NOT written by their usual writer for Japanese media, which erroneously claims 2ch as an "anime forum" (it's not) and then claims with zero citation, that "Poole originally founded 4chan as a place to chat about anime and Japanese culture".
Here's what moot said in his 2005 update to the SA 4chan thread.
>I started 4chan when I was very bored, in need of porno, and wanted a cool email address (especially because I couldn't register pant.su ). The immediate result was a cool 2chan clone that provided me with all such things, but a few unwanted side effects, the predominant one being ANIMU OTAKU KAWAII BAKA NEKOS-TAN-^______^-PYO-NYOs. Said people are complete wastes of human life and made running the site hell not only for me, but the original users (RH), and people like C_V and shut who tried to help with the burden. The end result was the site dying multiple times, with its final (READ: IT NEVER DIES) death on June 20th, 2004.
Moot stated it for everyone to see. He made it for porn and an email address, and anime fans congregating there was an unintended and unwanted side effect.
