Why is this game seen as some type of Magnum Opus when 776 was objectively a better game and had a better story?

I've never played any of these. Should I start with the first one on Famicom or this one >>11811494 (OP) or the gba ones or the gamecube one or a non-retro one?

Thracia doesn't really hit the same without the context of Genealogy. Furthermore, its a grand scale epic of larger than life heroes which makes it more fun and interesting for most people, like tales of Heracles or Arthur.

4 and 5 on the SNES are the very best of the series, so maybe start with the GBA ones so everything after doesn't feel like a disappointment. Any of the GBA games are good starting points just pick whichever one sounds the most interesting.

Not many people think it's a magnum opus, it just has a very dedicated group of fans because it's so unique among the series
I agree 776 is a much better "core Fire Emblem" game, but FE4 is very much its kinda thing and comparing the two directly is kind of pointless imo
Vestaria, Berwick, and Andaron poop on every mainline FE title thoughbeit

Honestly any of the SNES ones would probably be horrible to start with compared to the GBA or GC games, and i say that as someone who loves the SNES games
Maybe FE3 (mystery of the emblem) would be ok but half of it is a remake of the first game and the UI feels like mud

The SNES games are ridiculously difficult. The GBA games they made with American audiences in mind and that's where most people get their start

Yeah thats what I'd imagine, even if Blazing Blade's tutorial is too long. Sacred Stones inherently does a good job with the difficulty curve and is very beginner friendly too, both the NA GBA titles are good starting points

because Muh japan only game so it must be a masterpiece
Faggot Emblem is overrated shitty series but Tranny 69 is by far the most overrated

Gamecube one for gameplay, GBA ones if you enjoy good pixel graphics

Gamecube one is expensive though if you're trying to buy the OG

I bought it when it came out, but last time I played it on a modded Wii. I imagine emulating it works too.

Cause its grandiose scale and it came near the end of the SFC's lifespan. Also at that time SFC just kept pumping out banger after banger and this was FE's contribution to it.

ngl it does a lot of shit stupidly. But it does have the best story/writing in an FE for what that's worth.

Having to get every shitty recruit, capture everything of any value, and move the scrolls around to get the best level-ups in FE5 was brutal on my tism. FE4 was smooth enough to be a good gameplay-storytelling experience in comparison

it released when the SFC was dead, the dreamcast was already out.

FE4 and FE5 are the best Fire emblem

Just enjoy them both

You think this because you're new and/or have brain damage. Before 2020, "retro" was defined on a (consistent) per-platform basis, not on a (retarded, shortsighted, zoomer) per-game basis like we have today.
>Example?
1. Deus Ex (2000) was retro because it natively played on the Windows 98 platform (1998).
2. Battle Kid (2010) was retro because it natively played on the NES platform (1983).

It’s on both a console and game basis today. PS2 games released in 2008 don’t count because the game came out too late, and the DS games from 2005 don’t count because the hardware is too recent.

This fucking map in 3 is where I dropped the series; I liked 1, I loved Gaiden, and the remake book of 3 was okay (the inventory management wasn't as retarded as in the OG but it lacked many maps) but the sequel book.... jesus.

Why is it so complicated to have NORMAL missions?! I swear every 2 mission there is some retarded gimmick like "don't fight, just flee before they catch you!!!" or some retarded time event. Picrel was the last drop, I couldn't take it anymore (in case you don't remember, they make it look like a normal map but in fact it's a death trap and you have to hurry to the castle to end the map because after a few turns some OP units come from behind your back to wreck your shit, but of course you can't know that on your first play).
I just want some regular fights.

This was 4 years ago and actually 2 days ago I thought maybe I'd try to catch up where I left off but now I don't remember a thing about the game and I'd have to restart the book over so I didn't.
