Also why the keyboard on this one, was there a BASIC built in or provided on a cart as a pack-in? Weird shit.

Is that actually a mini CRT? That's awesome.
>>11814060
Probably comes with Family BASIC or some Chinese typing program. From what I understand the Chinese required systems to be half educational (I could be wrong though).

In that case they probably just copied the Chinese. Either way it probably runs Family BASIC.

These keyboard-type Famiclones never integrate with or otherwise support Nintendo / Sharp Family BASIC, it's typically some bespoke rudimentary word processor or interpreter.

I've had picrelated. The Famiclone cartridge slot was integrated with the P1 controller. It also had Wireless RF antennae's for TV connection. P2 controller could be attached to the bottom section of the console.

Realistically?
Any of the early 90s taiwan clones.
Preferably the generic "Family Game" or "Family Video Game" ones.
Probably the princess one is the most soulful, but I also have a soft spot for the grey ones.

I wasn't super informed on Dendy, and this thread inspired me to do some research. It's such a cool idea to me, Russian kids that could never have afforded official consoles or a PC were able to be introduced to gaming and enjoyed playing all of the classics (minus RPGs that required a battery save) plus a lot of weird romhacks and Japanese only releases that the Taiwanese bootleggers copied onto those crazy 999 multicarts. Also the multicart thing is an interesting point as only in the bootleg market were multicarts ever common in the era. Makes you wonder why Nintendo or Sega never thought to release multicarts with simple/cheap games and release them for the "budget" market in the West. Like if I took a big old crate of flashcarts in a time machine I could make big bucks and also make a lot of peoples dreams come true.

I'm from Eastern Europe. My parents bought it for us at the local market, but I have no idea where they got the idea because they were never interested in video games and they certainly never would have ever spent money on them. We had a PC that had some games but that's it. It was probably in the late 90s.
We only used the default cart that came with it and played Mario, Bomberman, Duck Hunt, a game called Tank, I don't think I remember more.
We once bought a cart, but it didn't work.
Eventually, the console stopped working.

I'm Brazilian, grew up with a Mega Drive which eventually broke for good, after that we got a PlayStation... but in between them we got a PolyStation, and I loved the thing. I mostly played the titles that came bundled in (999.999 in its memory!) like SMB1 or Duck Hunt, so classic Nintendo titles, but also some titles that aren't as famous, like Battle City, F1 Race and Nuts & MIlk, to be more specific a Pikachu ROM hack of Nuts & Milk. I had cartridges for Batman and for Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six, I played both of them to death, but only managed to beat both as a grown up... they weren't easy, but I couldn't stop playing 'em.

Thats super interesting anon, thanks for sharing. The game, Tank you mention, I think was called Battle City, and I've seen a lot of mention of it as one of the most popular games in the former Sovet Union for the Dendy style machines, also mentioned by Brazillian anon.

Thanks for sharing, I just find it interesting and soulful that kids were able to appreciate simple 8bit games well into the mid-late 90s in countries where tech was often ridiculously expensive. Do you recall how much a PlayStation was in comparison to a Polystation or is that asking too much to remember?

Oh yeah, it was Battle City, but it it was called something like tank on the 99999 in 1 cartridge.
I'm honestly glad we got this console instead of a PS1 because I remember a relative of mine having a PS1 and I was never interested in those 3D games, and my preferences haven't changed since.
In hindsight, you miss out on a lot of video game culture when you grow up in the 3rd world, so it was nice to have had a classic console for a while.
