>>11814191 (OP)Halo is one of those series where you have to keep in mind when people talk about it nostalgically that normalfags are complete retards with shit taste. Normalfags will tell you Halo 1 and 3 is great but that Halo 2 was disappointing other than the multiplayer. The opposite is true.
Halo 1 sucks fucking ass. The campaign is fucking terrible and not remotely modern even for 2001. All the advancements in gameplay and level design of games like Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and Thief 2 are not remotely present. There are some really cool really memorable outside levels, but 90% of the game is bad corridor shooting with mediocre guns. The guns are so mediocre, no one uses anything but the pistol in half the levels. You get about halfway through the game and it decides it's going to be some cosmic space survival horror game for a map or two, then you have to play the entire first half of the game backwards. That's right, it's a completely linear fucking game that still manages to have HOURS of backtracking. It's one of the most overrated single player campaigns ever.
Halo 2 is really really good. It's the game where the Halo universe starts to feel alive and the conflict between humans and the aliens feels like a real war in a real future. It accomplishes things competing franchises like Gears and Killzone wouldn't pull off convincingly until the PS3/360 era, and it does it on the original Xbox. By far the best game on the console, and even normies agreed if we're talking about online. The success of this game on Xbox Live is the main reason the 360 won the first half of its console generation.
And then Halo 3 came out, purposefully designed as a "love letter" to Halo 1. And it fucking sucks because of it. Some of the levels are really good tech demos for the 360, but other than that it's super boring. Online was OKAY but not as good as Halo 2.
ODST is okay, Reach is the most overrated game in the series. Everything after Reach is trash.
