Unpopular opinion: None of you who claim to care about game preservation actually care about preservation. Whenever a ROM site gets taken down by companies like Nintendo, you're just upset that your access to free stuff is being compromised.

Actually my access to free stuff isn't compromised because I already have every pre-7th Gen game meticulously backed up and categorized

I want to have my own giant nas full of game and dvd rips but getting a job right now is impossible and I still live with my parents. Also, buying old games is expensive as hell compared to buying old movies.

Buy two related hard drives to mirror each other with 'rsync' and put Linux Mint on that machine.

i feel like everything (or almost everything) up to 6th gen is basically preserved due to how widespread and readily available emulation is and whatnot so preservation isn't too much of a concern for me there. i'm more concerned about preservation of games from 7th gen onward due to online services, DLCs, stricter DRMs, etc. making it harder to do.

as far as i'm concerned it's a nothing burger at best and a minor inconvenience at worst ROM sites are basically a hydra at this point, you cut off one head and three more take their place.
