..and what the fuck. It's fun, I mean it's mario, but... there are "but"s!
cant be just me, but the controls somehow suck. it's similar to Mario 64, ok, but the gameplay itself, the water thing you carry and have to user all the time SUCKS! the mini-bosses, the piranha things. you shoot and shoot water and enemies come and hit you non-stop, they don't let you in peace! enemies are everywhere and infinite, it's fucking annoying! add to that the fact that is hard to aim. ALSO, you defeat bosses or trigger small cutscenes AND THE ENEMIES STILL MOVE, making so that you're character stays still but the enemies get close while the cutscene plays, only for them to be centimeters close to you and hit you when it ends! YOU ARE NEVER IN PEACE IN THIS GAME
the fruits missions, what the fuck, you have to slowly carry each fruit, each time, and you have to throw them, but not just throw them and be done, no, you have to CALCUTE WHERE IT WILL BOUNCE, HOW IT WILL BOUNCE AND PRAY THEY FALL IN THE BASKETS HOLY SHIT
even worse, the fruits that you dont have to grab, no, YOU HAVE TO KICK AND TRANSPORT LIKE A GODDAMM FOOTBALL BALL WHAT THE FUCK HOW DO THEY PRETEND YOU TO CROSS BRIDGES AND WATER WHILE KICKING AND HEADING THE BALL WITH SHITTY SLIPPERY AF PHYSICS
what else. the game is creepy
also blue coins. I can already feel the suffering ahead (just got 10)
while most of the game is merely pretty good, the levels where fludd gets taken away are just pure mario platforming kino. i always see zoomers complain about losing their crutch, but they're seriously the best levels in the game. just learn to use the moveset.
>>11816109do you learn new moves? only 3d mario I know is 64, I miss my punching, back jumping, triple jump :/
>>11816098 (OP)Yes, it's very rushed and flawed, but still fun
>>11816127i take it as mario 64 2.0, which is welcomed, but idk
>>11816098 (OP)lots of soul in that, but it's quite special
>>11816125Mario doesn't learn new moves, but he does unlock new nozzles for the F.L.U.D.D. that let you run fast (including on water) and rocket jump.
However, the nozzle has to replace your hover nozzle, only one at a time.
Also, you can ignore the blue coins. They actually serve no purpose as the optional shines you get also serve no purpose.
Progression in Sunshine is fucked and the shines you collect hardly matter, it has the illusion of progression.
>>11816125No
You will slowly hover across large gaps instead of quickly long jumping and you will enjoy it
>>11816150>quickly long jumpingfuck how could I forget it? I knew I was forgetting something crucial!
man I need sleep
I appreciate that everything feels huge in this game, I mean always compared to 64 for reference. like I see far ahead in the maps, and can't quite distinguish actual playable zones from unplayable zones
I'm starting to think most of the people who say on Sunshine just suck at video games. I beat this game when I was 12/13? The only BS parts you have to do are the chuck ya secret levels and sand bird. Outside of that it's a fairly safe and fun game.
Not enough talk abo6how it built and improved upon 64's foundations.
In Super Mario 64 there were a lot of complaints about the game kicking you out of levels after getting a star. Pseudo-intellectual YouTubers tend to claim that it's filler. No, it wasn't filler. 64 kicked you out of levels because some levels would change and evolve after you collected a star. Bob Omb battlefield and Big Boo's Haunt for example.
Sunshine builds upon this and makes it so that every single mission changes the levels in some way. This makes the missions more significant and interesting than they were in 64.
>>11816272>The final level in this game was guiding a boat through lava with zero platforming to get to Bowser.Sunshine will forever be dogshit.
>>11816098 (OP)It's extremely flawed and full of tedious busy work. The setting wears out its welcome after a few stages but the entire rest of the game is still there.
Don't feel any compulsion to do more than you have to in order to beat it, get the game over with it's really not worth the time.
>blue coins (just got 10)Only 230 more to go.
This was a game made for kids who get 1 or 2 games a year, something they can spend months on doing shit in for a long ass time, some levels are built incredibly poorly on purpose to cheat the player from completing them, or they don't give you a reasonable amount of time to get accustomed to the mechanics which are always awkward due to the Fludd implementation requiring several retries for both. To a kid with infinity time in a year the bullshit is an "aw man!" and a retry. To an adult who maybe has an hour or two a day tops it's a "nah I'll play something else."
>>11816332That was like 20% of the final level, the rest was platforming
>>11816098 (OP)This is the only 3D mario game that deserved a sequel
>>11816098 (OP)It's peak Mario I will say
>>11816880Half the level is comically bad boat riding, half of it is mediocre sunshine platforming over two types of platforms that are all on the same height and all look the same. It's not a fun or interesting set of challenges and feels very anti-climactic.
Somehow, Sunshine is one of those games I still love despite the jank and the rush status. I understand it's flawed, I've never tried to put it up as one of Mario's great games. But I always liked Isle Delfino, and came to understand the movement. Pinball level sucks, final level is a joke we all know, blue coins are a real cunt without any sort of way to track which ones you got already. I still went back and 100% it not too long ago, though the blue coins required a checklist to not go insane.
>>11816098 (OP)I loved Sunshine as a kid. Simply a wonderful game.
>>11816873>To an adult who maybe has an hour or two a day tops it's a "nah I'll play something else."No shit you don't want to bing bing wahoo as an adult
>>11816332Did you even play the game? There was platforming before and after that.
My sister got me a GameCube with Sunshine and Turok back in Christmas 2006. I was a big Wahoo64 fan but I didn't like Sunshine. I exchanged both for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Starfox Adventures. Great games.
>>11816098 (OP)oh, I forgot I also have this thing downloaded
and maybe the galaxy games too but I expect the things to be fucking hard to configurate on the dolphin here, and run laggy because sunshine runs 80% snooth
>>11816098 (OP)>the game is creepywut? I played this shit when I was like 8 years old. There's nothing creepy.
>>11820181what's scary about that? its just a piranha plant covered in goop that you spray off.
just what the fuck is this shit and all that glitched-looking texture... substance all over the place?
>>11820185still just a piranha plant covered in goop that you spray. It never even occurred to me as a child that it was scary. Do low resolution textures scare you?
what is the fucking difference
>>11816109Some of those levels are super duper shit because the camera zooms all the way out and I can't see where my fucking shadow is
>>11820190Bro it's like.. corrupted nature.. defiled.. with a subtext of sorrow
>>11820172Hotel level was quite surreal
>>11820220I wish the game did anything with what you're seeing in it,
because none of that really comes through in the game.
Sunshine is a rushed piece of crap and a rare nintendo embarrasment. Galaxy is so much better its unbelievable. Sunshine at least has some cool movement tech for speed running autism but the levels are so fucking shit it doesnt matter
>>11816272i had no problem with the sandbird but i didn't play much past that because the game just didn't feel good. it has a weird sinister tone and they managed to make sunshine feel like a negative thing like glare or the movie 'sunshine'. the game should be called Mario Headache Glare
>>11821006(btw i don't remember much about it but some stuff that was in the game just struck me how not fun it was one example I do remember is this underground like surfing race or something? just like you beat it and then you think... 'i didn't enjoy that'. I stopped and was glad because later i read that the game is full of that feeling. That's like the opposite of mario 64 where you keep going down the slide after you got the star because it's just fun)
