cardstock doesn't work well in my laser printer. The toner sits on top and rubs off easily. It also smears if i don't print some regular paper between each page. Is this guy clueless enough to have an inkjet, and one that takes cartridges instead of bottles?

Get a better printer. My laser printer has no trouble with even the heaviest cardstock. It also prints in color and automatically flips pages over to print on both sides.

I don't know about 4 or 5, but Ultima 2 and 3 had some really nice manuals and other stuff that came with the game

If you really want to play it like many of us did back then. You go in blind. We pirated it, so no manuals, no reference cards, no map. You learn the land by just exploring it.
If you were lucky, maybe you got some textfiles along with the copy of the game. But usually no.
(Though I guess I must've gotten something with U4 & 5 so I could mix spells.)

the only game sin the series worth paying are definitely the original trilogy and *maybe* 4.
