Yes it's me again. I really need to get good at this shit and finally be able to at the very least keep up with my gf, she's too good at this.
My main problem, besides the multitasking of having to eye the upcoming blocks and the main board, is that I constantly fuck up the rotation of the block pairs. A and B buttons rotate the blocks clockwise, while C rotates counter clock. There's certain situations where I just keep pressing the same button and it never lands the way I want it because I need to rotate it the other way, but timeframe doesn't give my brain/eyes to react a chance. Especially when i'm already full of blocks and they keep falling faster and faster.
Another mechanical problem I have is I have issues aiming the vertical drop line, many times I land the blocks on the wrong line, mainly because I want to speed up things.
Can't count the times I've fucked up good plays because I landed a block on the wrong place.
How do I train both my mental speed and my motor skills for this kind of game?
I'm fairly good at action games and fighting games and I take pride on thar, but falling block puzzles hit my ego like no other. Especially by getting humilliated by my gf.

Once you know the mechanics and where you're lacking, it boils down to getting a feel for it, and some of that starts by forcing yourself to do what feels wrong. Intentionally try CC rotating when your guts says to C rotate.
I'm no falling block expert, but this is just general skill acquisition advice for people who are older. Ultimately there's a reason why you see literal 13 year olds who go from never having played Tetris to being competitive pros in maybe a year is that
(1) best skill acquisition time is when you're young, and
(2) a lot of specific skill development is based on your immutable characteristics/natural talent for that skill.
That's not to say you can't git gud, but I wouldn't expect to go from scrub to even decent overnight. I would say you'll probably have to grind for quite some time to get even moderately proficient, and that's probably going to be where you top out

I noticed the one button I shouldn't use is actually C, since it rotates the blocks in the same direction as B, so it's redundant. A and B are the only buttons that matter.
I started trying to actually be able to foresee upcoming blocks on the upper part of the screen, though it proves to be very hard, especially once you don't have a lot of room to move and blocks start falling faster.
I also need to balance tech with speed... I often do very clean strategies but I still lose because I'm too slow, but if I'm too fast I can't think the strategy to build chains.
Being able to actually get good at these games is fucking intense and demanding.
Worse part is my gf just laughs and tells me I try too hard and that it's a lot simpler than I think, but no, I know it all comes down to tech and speed. She naturally/intuitively plays very well. I have to concentrate a lot to even be able to keep up with her.
But yeah, like anything, the most important part is practice. I'll try even harder.

Gunpey is actually really good.

It"s too bad the mobile market is so fucked up, because it would be great on a touchscreen. But if they did that nowdays it would be full of engagement-farming bullshit instead of fun gameplay, which would be worse than it being forgotten.

What a sad world we live in.

It had a mobile game that lasted like a year at most I think because it was incredibly unpopular
