2.
Being able to launch cars from behind made the games worse.

Burnout 3 because they didn't censor the blood. That's why it got a T rating.

these games are fun for two hours then get immediately boring, the only fun thing about the races is the crashing. The crash mode is pretty good but the actual racing is very shallow. Revenge kind of fixed this because it had a mode where it was all about ramming cars off the road and chaining wrecks so I liked it the most.

burnout would have crashed & burned (no pun intended) had it not been for the soundtrack. its a music album with an interactive car crashing minigame in the background

for some reason this opinion is unpopular here but early 00s pop-punk/pop-emo is some of the worst music ever recorded, burnout 2 did just fine with generic videogame music

personally i love that shit but i can understand why people dont, regardless burnout 2 is a great game but it didnt reach the heights that 3 did, despite 3 being a much simpler game. people remember takedown, revenge, dominator, paradise, not 2 and sure as hell not the original. and when burnout is brought up people talk about yellowcard, fall out boy, guns n roses, avril lavigne, etc, not the gameplay. the gameplay is extremely mindless but the soundtrack elevates it by pumping you up and making you enjoy it. burnout would have been forgotten with all the other eurojank racers of the 2000s had EA not picked it up and forced a licensed soundtrack on them. whether thats a good or bad thing is up to you to decide.

Early 2000s not so much, mid-late 2000s somewhat agree.

I'm definitely in the minority but I usually just switch the music off and play something else when I replay Paradise. I do feel like 2 is more memorable than you think though, it was huge at the time, and I can't think of any other racers from the time that did what burnout takedown does, we had violent racers before but none that had such a focus on taking down your opponents rather than outdriving them. But yeah, people do inexplicably talk about the soundtracks a lot.

I feel like my cut-off for that kind of music is when bands like Green Day and Blink 182 became more maudlin than goofy

While I do love both, the pinnacle of the series for me is 3 due to its locations which are more colorful and flow which brings you to what feels like a greater variety of locations. However, I will say it was amazing to meet up with a dedicated community to crash mode on the final online days of Revenge, they shared their unique stories and taught me some of the strategies they've developed specifically for that mode. I recognize there may be partial bias towards 3 on my part as it is my introduction to the series, and that first time with friends up all night passing the controller from one person to the next, also an amazing experience which elevated it above the rest in the series.

it's also an awful genre for racing, lostprophets get a pass in nfsu because you can imagine you're driving a car full of toddlers away from their singer but the way most of the songs are structured does not fit with games about going fast

Like I said, a short sighted opinion. I get it, there wasn't enough black people on the soundtrack but you haven't exactly been deprived of that.

Both are great but Revenge is slifhtky better. Level design is better overall and traffic check is a good thing. People bitch about it but its an improvement, slifhtly less to worry about crashing, more focus on takedowns including being able to traffic check a car into another racer is fun.

People have different music tastes but I think Revenge has the superior soundtrack too

Hockey hasn't meant shit vidya-wise since the Mega Drive, and in the greater cultural spheres hasn't drawn a dime post-Mighty Ducks, Mario Lemieux, and Gretsky.
Some unknown guy got his neck sliced a couple of years ago on the ice which raised some eyebrows, but otherwise it's a nothing sport. Less relevant than basketball.

At the time tho, while we all did play burnout 3 and had a blast, burnout 2 was always around because itโ€™s crash mode is just better and fun way to kill an hour or two before hitting the movies or occasionally going downtown for some overpriced drinks. It got rotated in w Mario parties and such whenever the entire social circle I was in were at someoneโ€™s house. But ur right B2 has been totally forgotten.

To answer OPs question, 3 has an actual single player as basic as it is, and mixes up things plus I love the ost (I have a bunch of songs added that fit the time too) and w the ability to add music and a very time capsule radio dj it just hits me right in the feels. Plus some of the actual race tracks are gorgeous graphically and hold up to this day imo.

Also to add on, revenge suffers from the brown and bloom fad on the 360 while not sega bright, takedown is much easier on the eyes.

I mean I enjoy the music but I agree about it being complete garbage especially later on. What twists my titties is how these game devs managed to find the absolute worst nobody bands to get music from. Although Duke Nukem managed to get Stabbing Westward so I guess that's cool.

Well you got what you wanted. Now rock music as a whole has vanished from public conscious.
