The poor design make these games unnecessary hard

So you're not good enough to beat the main game mode, op? It doesn't matter.
Just enjoy the other modes. Direct some car chase kino.

Early 3d makes my eyes bleed. Out Run feels more modern than PS1 racers.

If you can beat the intro mission, the rest of the game isn't any harder.

The last mission of Driver 1 PSX is harder than anything from both games by a wide margin. They made it easier on PC.

That's not a tutorial retard. There's an actual tutorial section if you actually know how to read the menu.

Except for the last level in Driver 1, not poorly designed at all.
>unnecessary hard
Learn to drive. They even give you unlimited continues for every level.

The only mission that is really burned into my mind given how much trouble it has given me is 'Chase the gunman' from Driver 2.

the tutorial didn't recognise the 360 reverse maneuverer well. The other tricks were easy to do.
The second game was only criticised because people came around to realising the first game wasn't amazing.
I hear game shops used to sell memory cards containing completed tutorial saves.

you could actually hit the pedestrians in this one, they wouldn't die so you could just drag them around the map

in hindsight the tutorial is the best part of either game as strict as it is. it's ultimately just a straight forward driving test, no ai bullshit, no gimmicky mission mechanics, just make use of the game's decent handling.

it really is not when the game can't register what you did properly

I'm the opposite. the tutorial while kind of an odd difficulty spike to have immediately at the start of the game is about 100 times more reasonable and fair than the average mission in the actual campaign.

I personally never had a problem with that. The only thing that stumped me, being an ESL kid at the time, was that I did not understand what 'Reverse 180' meant. Once I learned (must have been from a local gaming magazine) it was pretty easy.

The tutorial has an in-game video that shows how to do everything.

But somehow I'm the only one who's noticed that.

They don't stand out as being particularly memorable to me at all. I know I had fun with them but all what stands out to me is how funny Driver 2 seems now in hindsight being like a prototype beta for GTA3. You can get out of the car and explore sure but I can only imagine how unfinished this must feel today going back with cars being able to go right through you.

I replayed Driver 2 a couple weeks ago. It's easy as fuck. The only frustration is when the objective marker points inside a building, you have no idea how to get inside, and the timer only gives you 9 seconds to figure it out. Plenty of GTA missions were worse offenders for that though.
