I am the anon that posted the "SNES Game Recommendation thread" a few weeks ago in which I received plenty of great recommendations, many of which I have now tried out, or have at least been added to my flashcart. Thread was real comfy. I bought myself an N64 around 2 weeks ago. I once owned one as a young teenager for a brief time but sold it to fund some other project having beat Goldeneye and put a handful of hours into Ocarina of Time. This time around I bought the N64 from CeX with a copy of Ocarina of Time and I just finished it last night and have had an absolute blast with it, I have played nothing else for 2 weeks, didn't even boot my SNES or PS2 and I haven't launched a game on Steam in that time. It's now firmly placed in my top 5 games of all time. I want to know what you anons think I should play next. The only downsides at this point in time are that I don't have a flashcart as they seem to be exceedingly expensive compared to SNES flashcarts (cost me £30), and I also lack the Expansion RAM Pak so currently Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, and Majoras Mask will require me to purchase one which is a tad frustrating as the Pak is around £40 at minimum on eBay which is over half what the console cost me.

Beetle Adventure Racing
Bomberman 64
Castlevania
Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
Duke Nukem 64
Duke Nukem - Zero Hour
Doom 64
Goemon's Great Adventure
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Perfect Dark
Quest 64
Quake II
Turok 1/2/3
The World is Not Enough

That's basically all the N64 games that I've played and enjoyed minus what you already mentionned and a few ports/multiplats that are better played elsewhere (Duke 64 is one too but the N64 version is different enough to be worth playing, Quake II on N64 is all exclusive levels however)

Thanks anon, I'll add these to my list. I'm actually super interested in Castlevania 64, it looks like a precursor to Dark Souls or Bloodborne or something, and I love SCIV and Dracula X/ Vampire's Kiss. I see it wasn't well received at the time but the consensus seems to have changed over the years, I wonder why people didn't like it back then.
>>11819036
This looks pretty damn fun from the footage I've just watched, will have to wait till I get a flashcart though as it doesn't look like it got a PAL release.

>Lylat Wars
kek, why the fuck couldn't they have just called it Starfox 64, or even just Starwing 64 and kept with the name of the SNES PAL release? Fucking Lylat Wars! What were they thinkeeng?

why waste time on shitty polygonal games when you could play good ones instead?

People don't like SNES because it's old but because it's 2D, which was illegal until about 2007, ironically the cutoff for this board. There's so much gold you're ignoring.

why do people hate the Cruis'n games? They just seem like fun goofy arcade racers to me.

Agreed.

I like SNES and Genesis too but this ain't the thread for it faggot, begone.

Anyway N64 is kino, if you know you know. Definitely some fun games if you give them a chance.

Currently have been playing through Banjo Tooie on my MisterPi and have been having fun with it since I only played the original back in the day.

I remember trying Tooie out at Walmart on the kiosk they had and was blown away but I think it was close to the Gamecube release time in my head or I got different games at that time etc.

Cruisin' USA was so fun. I played it at the Discovery Zone during my birthday party and got the N64 port for that same birthday. Was such a fucking blast to play.

It's just a fun racing game. It knows what it is and doesn't try hard like other racing games that try to be too sim like etc.

I noticed my N64 carts are really loose and even had a game reset due to connection failing. Never noticed something like this before, but then I only play N64 once every few years. Does the cart slot need to be repaired/replaced?

I don't like the SNES solely because it's 2D, I love the SNES because it has incredible games. I don't see how enjoying N64 games is ignoring anything on the SNES. Since getting my current SNES about 3 months ago I've completed
>Super Mario World
>Super Metroid
>Super Castlevania IV
>Legend of Zelda A Link To the Past
>Donkey Kong Country 1
I am also 20% through DKC2 and about half way through Yoshi's Island, I love my SNES and plan on playing and beating a whole host of games for it, it's an incredible system with an incredible library of games. Yes, 2D sprite work is beautiful, but hating N64 and PSX is retarded. There are plenty of early 3D masterpieces on that generation of consoles, most of which not only just hold up today, but are better than 90% of modern games. Expand your horizons and you'll likely find a lot of games that you've missed out on.

It's more likely to be oxidisation or some foreign material on the cart pins than anything. But if you've been using chinese flash carts you might have strained the pin tension and now it can't make good contact. China is always a crapshoot. They *can* make high quality in-spec stuff, but they are also famous for making highly variable trash and just selling it all and telling you to go bolt if you have a problem.

They are a prime example of being on the wrong side of the bullshit/challenging divide. Mario Kart 64 has bullshit RNG and rubber banding, but the gameplay is fun enough to make it worth persevering. Cruis'n has proper bullshit where the rubber banding isn't there to ensure you still have to fight for 1st place even if you've mastered the boosts, it's there to steal your quarters. You can race damn near perfect and the game will steer traffic into you forcing you to take a bad line on the last corner while the cpu on hyper turbo zooms into the lead and robs you. Like all of midway's 90's games, it goes too far in the wrong direction and spoils what would otherwise be a fun romp around a low polygon USA cannonball run.

Yeah, aftermarket carts are often way thicker than the real thing. Not an issue if you never remove them, but definitely will damage the thing over time. In this case though, it is official carts only, never used anything else. Noticed Zelda flopping around in the console and even resetting.

Nice, Starfox 64 is a must-have/must-play on the N64. Owned it for many years and played it a ton, still haven't done all the different paths/levels/secrets. Great game that aged well
