One of my favorite fighting games is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I'm sure it is a horrible, terrible, awful, dogpiss dogshit game to play in a tournament. The game's design basically spits on high-level play. But that's never stopped me from having fun playing it with friends and family or trying to master all the characters. You can play that game for a thousand hours and not get bored. (I actually just got the milestone for playing my 1,000th match earlier this year.)
Nobody's ever going to make a perfect fighting game. It's fine to praise the games that get close, they deserve it. But that isn't equivalent to being fun to play and learn, which for me at least is what fighting games are all about.
