If you were talking about 8 and 11, you'd be right, but party chat in 4-7 is much more expansive than that. The party has comments about damn near everything any NPC can say, and more often than not it's not at all related to the next objective, and instead helps characterize the party members.

I don't think I can rival with the FF6 autism guy, but a couple of interesting things I noticed about DQ4:

Scenario 1 is mostly about a single character like DQ1. You do get a helper but he's technically optional, and having a single character + helper(s) had in fact become a standard for DQ1 clones

In Scenario 2 you get a physical hitter, a spell caster, and a middle ground character that can do a bit of both but excels at nothing; just like in DQ2.

It's also interesting that in the first few chapters the only dungeons are caves and towers, just like in DQ1 and 2, before Chapter 5 throws in new dungeon themes of all kinds like the giant tree (a common trope since then but novel at the time). DQ4 makes you want to relive the gold old days before going further what has been done before.

There are a surprising number of story differences between PSX and DS, but it's highly arguable which version is superior so I think PSX is a fine choice.

>>11823254
A lot of the party chat is DQ4 is small scenes from the various manga and novel adaptations it had that the people who were making the remakes really liked and wanted to add into the game proper.
It compromises about two-thirds of the game's script and massively fleshes out the game's story and characters.
It's completely 100% optional (if you never hit the party chat button you will never see it) so even if you deeply, profoundly despise story in RPGs to the bottom of the black pit of your soul there's no reason not to have it.

We're not talking about Ico or Yume Nikki.
This isn't a minimalist game, it's Dragon Quest.
You walk around and talk to people and fight monsters and open treasure chests. Occasionally you shop. That's the gameplay. That's the game.
Removing optional dialogue doesn't make the game better, it just makes it emptier.

>a 5th party remake company
The DQ4 remake was made by Heartbeat, the makers of DQ6 and DQ7. They're a central pillar of the Dragon Quest series.
>lore from books written by some guy and comics written by some other guy isnt relevant
They weren't written by Horii Yuuji, but neither was Torneko's Mystery Dungeon, and neither was a large chunk of DQ4 itself. DQ4 has five assistant writers in the credits. If you want to play studio RPGs you have to accept that they are group efforts, and the people Enix hired to make the numerous DQ4 adaptations are also a part of that group effort.
Horii Yuuji specifically said that some of the scenes that were added to the remake were stuff he wanted to put into the original game but was told he had to cut because there wasn't enough space on the cart.
Absolutely everyone who likes or cares about Dragon Quest IV should have some degree of interest in at least some of these scenes. They're a beloved part of the game's history that was very difficult to access because they'd never been translated and are all wildly out of print. Then they're translated for you and made as easy to see as possible, and kept completely optional, and your response is to complain? Can you even call yourself a fan of the game at that point?

If you want a gameplay-condensed DQ, try one of the tendie RPGs that rip it off.
>Pokemon (preferably Gen 2/3)
>Mother (preferably Earthbound, rolling HP rocks)
>Glory of Heracules (don't play 1 or the shitboot, SNES games are great)
>Golden Sun (start anywhere but jump to 2 with a Gold Medal code, the multiplayer mode is pretty fun)

None, really. The DS version is more or less a straight port of PSX, right down to the shoehorned Chapter 6 that retcons Psaro to just be a chump who got manipulated by his own servant the whole time.

Was trying to find apks of 3 and 4 either not chock full of spyware or compatible with newer Androids, and shit's impossible. Fuck paying like 12 bux a game, Squenix STILL charge as much as 30 for some older shit, too. Thankfully I did 3 before on SNES.

Did however easily find V, liking playing it again with the added stuff anyway. I know, ACCENTS but the renames surprisingly impact very little from the SNES version. Playing in portrait is comfy and you don't have to onscreen dpad, just swipe holds. I thought it'd suck for diagonal movement (which it has) but nah.

I feel like every developer says this about every remake of one of their games. They obviously want the remake to do well, so they're not gonna represent it as an inauthentic version. Lorne Lanning said Soulstorm was the version of Abe's Exoddus he wanted to make originally, as if he totally wanted to shoehorn looting and crafting mechanics into a PS1 platformer back in 1998. I don't believe any of that stuff.
