Why does it feel like a chinese bootleg sequel to Mario? The level design is off, the character and enemy designs are off, the artstyle is garish, the dialogue slowly advances at a snail's pace, and there is tons of questionable design decisions and filler items/mechanics.

This feels like the forgotten black sheep of the Mario series. You almost never see any discussion or footage of SMB3 compared to SMB1/SMW.

I really don't like the level design of this game

Its because you are playing the right Bros version and not the devs original vision which is left Bros.

This but for Lost Levels.

The weird arrows on the bottom, the card roulette, the coins being a $ dollar sign, all the stupid minigames, the boss travelling around for some reason, the random hammer bros stages, how short so many levels are in general, all the shitty autoscrollers, the whole layout of levels, shitty powerups like cat, etc.

The whole game just feels off and the level design feels way less iconic, even sloppy

The game feels too slippery and the level design sucks.

SMB1 was tight, precise, iconic, memorable. This just feels lazy and haphazard like they were just throwing enemies and hazards at random

Someone needs to do one of those autistic level design reviews. Like the ones people did at the height of the “SONIC WAS ALWAYS BAD” debate. I've seen some detailed critiques of the physics of these games but never of the level design

I hate how when you fail a level it moves your overworld sprite back to the previous level instead of just keeping you on top of the level you just failed. It's a nitpick but I just really don't get the point of wasting your time like that

I think that's for 2 player mode which should be played competitively for maximum fun and the mario bros minigame

You see how that cluster of islands resembles Japan?
The Seto Ohashi Bridge was copleted during development.

It was the pinnacle of sub pixel movement and is why movement has to be different than all stars. 6500 for nes had no decimal point in order not to get sued by Commodore so it had to rely on using two bytes with one byte representing a fractional 255 bit value

This person is either wholly mentally ill, in like a smearing diapers on walls way …

…. or they didn’t play SMB3.

…perhaps they played some other game labeled as SMB3.
