Why? The emulation (canoe) is silky smooth and locked to 60fps. Modern displays love this. The controllers it comes are also great.

Cobra isn't perfect for all games, but it's good enough that I use a PS3 for my PS3/PS2 gaming.
If you're on a modern tv, the PS3 with retroarch is a pretty good option for all the old stuff, but you're not getting 240p out of that thing to a CRT.

At some point I fucked up my cobra somehow on one of my drives and I only have one PS3, so what I did was just get really good at swapping the drives quickly, it's just 1 screw on the slim.
I keep all my PS3 games on the SSD that I was going to use originally, and just put all the PS2 stuff on the original drive the console shipped with.
Oh yeah, speaking of which, if your cobra ever stops working and none of the fixes out there work for it, reformatting the whole drive usually works.

Not to mention basic soulful side effects of the sound chip such as the ladder effect, are completely unemulated and missing. You're not going to convince anyone that this broken piece of trash is "superior" to Genesis Plus GX, brother.

The FBNeo core on RA is updated several times a day (you can verify this by updating it in RA, loading the core, and confirming that the version at the bottom is the same code as the latest commit on github here:
https://github.com/libretro/FBNeo

So no it doesn't need a new romset at every single update
I use these roms and they work perfectly:

Genesis plus gx uses Nukey OPN2. Which funnily enough is directly referenced in that link:

"You see, Nuked OPN2 isnโ€™t just a cycle-accurate emulator: itโ€™s a cycle-accurate emulator thatโ€™s based directly on a die-shot of a de-capped YM3438. Essentially, Nuked OPN2 is a conversion of the YM3438โ€™s circuitry to C. With this, there are no mysteries about how the YM3438 works: everything is documented in such a way that you can verify it just by running it."

So no, clowmdemu doesn't have the most accurate audio. Genesis plus gx and the MiSTer FPGA core do, Blast em
is likely better too.

There is no patch for it so most likely the game would break if it run at 60 fps.
Boomers back then were often coding game engine stuff to be dependent on the framerate.

t. millennial that got my first burned CD filled with Visual Boy Advance plus maybe 10 or so ROMs from a black kid I was friends with at school.

It blew my fucking mind that you could play recent GBA games that just came out on the Windows XP computer we had.

I then got into ZSNES which was pure fucking soul (though obviously not as accurate as SNES9X) and took the same setup to even work on the upstairs Windows 2000 computer upstairs.

Fuck, it was so fun to see that shit run. I remember playing F-Zero with that IBM keyboard on a Compaq Deskpro via ZSNES. Kinda weirdly felt right and was a blast.

I remember being a retarded kid learning about emulation for the first time. There was a Zelda fan site in the mid-2000s that had a page of roms. I didn't really understand what they were besides knowing they somehow let you play the games on your pc. I downloaded A Link to the Past, and for some reason back then Windows automatically associated .smc files with internet explorer, so I thought that somehow the file would play like a flash game in the browser, but could never figure out how to get it to work.

I remember the exhilaration later on when I finally learned how emulators worked. I'll never forget the pure joy when I finally got Sonic 2 to boot on a Genesis emulator.

Are dumb/newbie troubleshooting questions allowed?

Currently using Everdrive GBA Mini x5 1.16 with Jagoomba Color 0.5. Having trouble getting GB/C games to save manually and read the RTC. Saving and then restarting with the Jagoomba menu gets the save to stick, and games that auto save work normally, although the RTC doesn't work in either case. For a specific example, Harvest Moon 1 saves normally but the Harvest Sprite Help function doesn't work, and Harvest Moon 2 doesn't save. GBA games work fine in all regards, and diagnostics show that the Everdrive's RTC works fine. I even replaced the battery for shits and giggles. PC also shows that it's writing save files, just not reading them apparently. I don't know shit beyond that. What could be the problem?

Update on this, enabling RTC on Goomba itself enabled it on all GB/C games. Before, I couldn't turn the option on for the games, now it's on for all of them by default.

The saving issue is exclusive to the GB/C games, and only those with manual saving. There's also a workaround, saving the game then restarting or exiting from the Goomba menu gets the save to stick, although exiting just restarts the game. Also, it's only a workaround, not a fix, as it needs to be done every time. All of this leads me to believe that it's an issue with the emulator and not the flashcart or the ROMs.

Why is navigating the menus in retroarch such an such an annoying pain in the ass. You can have what you want to select highlighted with your mouse curser and that won't be what's selected. Often times it's what was selected a moment ago. No wonder retroarch installations break all the time. They'll work fine until you start trying to tweak settings and because the menu system is so poorly designed you're clicking on things you don't even have highlighted.
That's got to be my NUMBER ONE complaint with retroarch. FIX YOUR FUCKING MENUS.
