I decided decades ago 2 was my favorite of the initial games, and since then anytime I've been in the mood to light up some og MK action it's been the choice. I like UMK3, but honestly haven't played it in years. Hearing other people's opinions of it these days has made me want to go back to it and see for myself

In any case, what do you prefer and why?

they're all kind of shit unless you're playing with someone because you can only beat the AI after a couple rounds by playing in the most unfun way possible.

Well yeah, generally I play fighting games with other people. I always enjoyed occasionally attempting to cheese MK's hard ass ladder modes though.

I am kind of starved for challenge in fighter arcade modes though, not trying to "flex" or anything but Final Bison made me sweat as a kid, now it's not that bad. Most games are a cakewalk, SNK games can be tough.

If you were playing MK since before MK3 you probably find 2 more nostalgic, you f you played 3 first or played both in retrospect 2 probably seems a little bare bones in comparison

I think that was just the working title for the Alpha/Zero series

At first it was called Street Fighter Classic. With a Super Famicom port in mind that never happened. Then it was called Street Fighter Legends. Then shortly before the CPSII release they called it Street Fighter ZERO.

Fighter arcade modes aren't even the same game as VS anyway. Fighting the CPU comes down to cheesing and finding cheap starts, it's fun but it's a completey different experience than even a shitty human player, it doesn't feel organic cuz it's not

2 is a better game for casual experience. presentation, fatalities, etc. umk3 is better for actual competitive play but almost everything else about it was underwhelming compared to 2.

MKII has the peak aesthetics of the series. Only bad thing about it is Kano and Sonja missing from it.

UMK3 is better though. Even MK3 is better. Previous games without the run button are just too slow. MK3 and UMK3 are fast, have way more moves and characters, and the combos are fun.

For me, it's MK Trilogy on the N64. 3 v 3 Kombat is the best.
