Hard mode minesweeper is kinda brutal. I've done the multiple kinds of cross-referencing deduction. I've done the guess-and-check propagating several tiles over to see if a possibility is invalid. I've even done the guess-and-check and compare all guesses to see if a tile is always clear/mine for all possible guesses.

Shit's just walled.

This is the guess to make. 25% chance of just losing instead of 50%.

If you've gotta guess once, you're probably gonna have to guess again.

It in fact required two more 66% safe guesses after the 75% safe guess. Soooo I had a 1 in 3 shot at winning, even doing the puzzle solving correctly.

here's a trick that sometimes gets you out of these jams
look at the two "2" tiles that I circled in yellow
for the one on the left, that means the two tiles I marked with red X's are GUARANTEED to have one mine in one of them. you can't mark it because you don't know which one.
but you know that mine is there
look at the circled tile next to it. we know the second mine is either above or below that tile
but it's GUARANTEED that there is no mine in any of the tiles I marked with a green check
you can click those mines with no risk
then with the numbers on those tiles you might be able to figure out which of the red X tiles has the mine

It's clear that that technique was already employed elsewhere. Just missed that it could be used in that spot.

I think my best score in Expert mode was 99 seconds.

I've tried expert mode as a kid many times but could never beat it. Intermediate yes, expert no.
