There is an extreme amount of ego involved with some of these "fix" and "improvement" patches. Like why do I care what some lone fag on the internet thinks is an improvement? Some are genuinely useful but things like adjusting balance and difficulty are cringe and make me think the creator is a salty loser who is mad the game killed him.

its great. its not overly difficult, I never had to grind. there is a seperate hard mode you can enable but the standard difficulty is good for me. just enough to make you sweat a bit during boss fights and think about your materia set ups. there is a lot of new and extra content as well as QOL stuff too and I thought they were all positive changes. for example you now spec stat growth for your characters leading them into different roles, you can choose your date at gold saucer, theres a bunch of new post game missions for ultimate weapons and limit breaks, you can change your party leader to tifa or cid. personally it totally replaces vanilla for me. Id reccomend 1.5 over 2.0 though, no clue why but he removed a bunch of content from 2.

vanilla final fantasy and pokemon are actually unplayable after youve tried (1) decent romhack of them.

It's quite amusing that any fan content for anything that isn't a beautiful fanart or some meme comic will always be seen as of little value but still be judged by much higher standards than the original thing, even if so much of the game's code was changed to the point where it barely ressembles what used to be there, people here and there will still call it a lazy product.
It has to change something big to justify its existence but also not change TOO MUCH so it doesn't feel like a completely different game, with the line separating both extremes being paper thin.
And even if those conditions were to be met, the hack will only be considered "acceptable" outside of youtube circlejerking.
