Did anyone ever make a decent HDMI mod for this thing? I remember a few years ago when the first composite mod came out, and it had a few issues such as the wrong aspect and other problems. Soon another came out that fixed a few of them, then another, then another. Feels like every week a new and better composite mod was coming out.

Then finally the first HDMI mod came out, and it had a boatload of problems. Wrong aspect, lag, took so much power that alkalines and even most rechargeable batteries did not supply enough voltage to let the GBA even power on when HDMI enabled, and others I likely forgot. So I waited thinking there would be new better ones coming out like the composite mods... and waited... and waited...

Did nobody else ever make a HDMI mod for this thing that does not suck? I was looking to at the minimum replace my GBA's screen with a better backlit one and install a HDMI mod on it, maybe others like a sound amplifier mod, but nobody seems to have ever improved upon that first shit HDMI mod that came out like how the composite mod was being constantly improved.

The popular solution is to swap the cartridge into a gameboy player, on a gamecube running swiss, running the video over hdmi through a gcvideo adapter

I wanted to do this specifically to avoid having to get a GBA player, mod my GC to load the homebrew GBA player app, and then get a way to get decent HDMI out of my GC.

The issue isn't the player itself, it's the software disk that's the expensive part. You can generally get the player itself for around $50 but the disk alone can cost a lot more than that for the USA version, and even the Japanese version costs as much as the player itself. Also using the original disk is not recommended anymore anyway because there is a homebrew replacement for that software now that runs a lot better than the official software, as well as has no lockouts like the software did, but you need a way to load homebrew on your GC.

there's literally open source hdmi mods for any revision of the GBA using FPGA. you could build your own but since you're too fucking retarded to even try google i wouldn't suggest it.

That's definitely more input lag than emulating and just outputting directly to your TV/monitor. Swiss and gcvideo have added input lag but GBA emulation has none.

I am well aware of the consolizers, but that's not what I want. I don't want to permanently turn it into a console that requires a TV.

Oh look, it's the common "I know the answer but I won't tell you" tactic that's a clear example of someone who doesn't know jack shit and is trying to hide that fact.

Most normies think you need the official disc in order to use the GB Player.

You still need a compatible game to do that, so if you're starting from scratch like I would be, you still have to buy at least one disk

There are dozens of ODEs for the GameCube, you can literally make one out of a Pi Pico and about 4 wires.

The best we got for anything remotely close is the Loopy DS capture card, but there's issues with that:
The capture card is primarily for DS games. You can do GBA games, but it won't look or capture right because of the refresh rate.
Unless there's a Linux/Raspberry Pi like workaround, you need Windows to capture it. There's no direct HDMI.
You lose out GameBoy and GameBoy Color games unless you use a flash cart like an EZ Flash, but that's just emulation.
The capture card is only for the original DS (or the DS ML, which is just a DS Lite like shell with the Original DS motherboard). There isn't one made for the DS Lite.

Your only other options are:
a. GameCube with a Digital Out, to use with GC Video, and a Gameboy Player with access to Swiss and GBI.
b. Something like the Anal log Pocket. "Simulated hardware" aside, it works for what it does. Not worth the price though.
c. Any "gaming" handheld that can emulate the GBA.

The options are definitely not for your autistic ass.

There is the GBA Consolizer. Not sure if you're referring to that.

>The best we got for anything remotely close is the Loopy DS capture card, but there's issues with that:
Not what I am looking for. On top of the issues you mentioned with outputting GBA games, I was looking for a solution that would work with GB, GBC, and GBA games. Not that interested in just having GBA and DS, I also want to output to HDMI or some other format you can plug into a TV, not over a data connection to a computer.

>GameCube with a Digital Out, to use with GC Video, and a Gameboy Player with access to Swiss and GBI.
The second most likely scenario I have been considering. I would really much rather just modify my GBA for that if I could. I want to install a backlit screen and better audio in it anyway, so might as well also put in a HDMI mod, it would also let me easily switch between playing on TV or portably.

Using a GBA player would be all I would use my GC for since my Wii can handle playing GC games with the same compatibility and is easier to mod and get RGB out of it. Plus I would then need to HDMI mod my GC (which is harder to do than HDMI modding a GBA), buy a GBA player for it, as well as get a way to load homebrew on it... which I would likely go the ODE route for if I am going to be opening it up anyway to HDMI mod. Plus it would not work for carts that had sensors on them like the Boktai games or the tilt sensor games.

>Something like the Anal log Pocket. "Simulated hardware" aside, it works for what it does. Not worth the price though.
I already have a MiSTer, and I agree, I don't feel it's worth the price, especially when I would also have to pay even more for the HDMI dock. Even though unlike my MiSTer it would be portable and able to play off actual carts.

>Any "gaming" handheld that can emulate the GBA.
If I was going to emulate I would just emulate on my PC, or if I am desperate on my phone.
