This is really good. I'm very impressed considering the limitations of the platform.
I rather play this than Peace Walker or Phantom Pain again.

It's a good game, probably on par with MG2, and I like that it's kinda Metal Gear Solid Gaiden.

You should reconsider Phantom Pain. With 10 years of hindsight (and DS and DS2 to go along with it), it's much easier to see what it was and how it succeeded. I think MGSV was polarizing because people didn't realize that MGS was evolving in that direction at all--because *most* people didn't play Portable Ops or Peace Walker. Even returning to those games, think neither of them feel right played outside of a handheld. Their entire design and MO and presentation is so steeped in a handheld experience. Which doesn't mean you have to play it on the bus or something, but context matters in that way. Worse yet is that the PSP is kind of a shitty handheld and its dumb little analog niblet thing feels awful to touch with human hands. With what was done in MGS1-4, I don't think there was another evolution there, which is why MGS4 was such an overblown super-cinematic mega-capper. Kojima is only interested in true sequels, he never rehashes or does base iteration. I will buy and play Delta just because I'm excited for a new Metal Gear any way I can get it, but I sure think Peace Walker could be redone and corrected for the record. There are zero good ways to play that game, and its handheld DNA is so yucky and obvious when you try to pretend its something more. Plus I'd love a fresh chance to experience its weird-ass Monster Hunter bosses with another person.

Can't wait to see what the hell PHYSINT will be.

It was very clear what direction TPP was going. It's just that the game is hollow. The engine and moment to moment action is amazing but the writing feels hollowed out. Not to mention the disappointment from Kojimas over-promises. Maybe you were not of age when TPP was hyped on /v/ and people totally lost it?

MGS1 is literally a msx game with cutscenes content wise.
And the backtracking makes the extremely linear level design so much worse.

you say that, and i sometimes do too tbph since its such a ludicrously good GBC game, but peace walker and MGSV were onto something and the engine was just fucking great imo. there was a lot more to come from that idea of making that kind of an episodic MGS. and if you watch the growth between those games, you can tell something was there. it just didnt get enough time in the oven, and kojimbo used wayyyyy too much konami monies and got told to fuck off. so the series died an ignoble death then was shortly thereafter resurrected for a shitty survival/zombie asset-flip cashgrab, which put it right back in the fucking ground
personally, i wouldve liked to have seen that formula through to its logical conclusion. it was like the final form of combining VR missions with mainline metal gear story mode
but alas

ill tell you the thing it DOES have that indisputably mogs any regular MGS is an actual fucking plot and no kojimbo peepee/fart humor/"just like muh chink cartoons" nonsense. no guy off in the corner shitting his pants during serious scenes. which is certainly a massive improvement to the series
whats-his-face just knew how to write a more grounded espionage/thriller plot, but it still has juuust enough anime nonsense to be indisputably MG

Always thought it was pretty dishonest for making it non-canon and then copying so much from it into MGS2. Same with Portable Ops.
