Why didn't anybody tell me how great Hebereke/Ufouria was?

Should I play Mr. gimmick next?

Also Sunsoft discussion.

The reboot from last(?) year was super cute, they did a great job with the characters and environments. Painfully short though and kinda half baked with the randomized (iirc) elements.

Definitely check out Gimmick!. Its awesome. Play the Famicom version since it has much better music than the PAL version.
If you like Sunsoft's platformers, I'd also check out Trip World on the Game Boy. Its much easier than Gimmick!, but it has a lot of the same charms that make Gimmick! special.

I consider Sunsoft to be one of the most slept on developers of the 90s. A lot of their early games like Ikki, Atlantis no Nazo, and Fester's Quest suck, so I suspect a lot of people associate them with trash even though by 1990 everything they put out was gold. Even the Hissatsu Pachinko Collection games, which by any expectation should be some of the worst games on the Super Famicom, have incredibly soulful graphics and music. My favorite game by them is Waku Waku 7, so if you like fighting games I'd check that out too.

>A lot of their early games like Ikki, Atlantis no Nazo, and Fester's Quest suck,

I wouldn't put Fester's Quest in the same basket as their infamous early kusoge. They presumably fired everyone who worked on the early games and got new devs that we in the west we know them for, and Fester's Quest is part of that second wave.

>Mr. Gimmick
It's just called "Gimmick". The title of "Mr. Gimmick" is a complete mistranslation because the character's name is Yumetaro, and Gimmick is the name of the world you go to in the game.

.....but yeah, play it, it's genuinely one of the most SOVLful platformers on the NES. Make sure you play the Japanese version (there's no text ingame anyway) because it has extra sound channels that the EU version lacks.
