not OP, but i don't remember it being as bad as other entries.
items are balanced (no blue shell and lightning every time you are first) and if you put some practice, you can avoid almost anything at point blank, even blue shells are dodgeable.

It's not bad, I just don't like how it controls. It's still a 7/10 game at least.

It's a wonderful game. It fixes all of the rubberbanding issues with MK64 and I love the handling, dynamic and everything about it.

I remember getting filtered by it, then putting it aside for years, until suddenly getting the urge to play it again and dominated and unlocked everything.

In my opinion, the best paced Mario Kart because it doesn't obliterate your speed everytime you get hit by an item. Red Shells in this game only stun you for about a second before you start driving again. Later Mario Karts every time you get struck by even bananas you stand still for a good 4 seconds while your character spasms around and everyone speeds by you. I only find Blue Shells and get struck by lightning maybe twice per cup in Double Dash, but in Wii and 8 I swear to christ they show up like every other minute it's so fucking annoying.

The handling is very strange in DD, imo. It's the MK game, besides Super Circuit, I have most problems adjusting myself to. To give an analogy, it feels like you're steering the car like a micro machine car, if that makes sense.

MK64 is my favourite but I played a shitload of DD with friends as well as single player. The battle mode with the bombs is fun.

According to plebbit you could play it online through selecting the lan option, using the broadband adapter and setting up the connections yourself, but was very glitchy, though there might be some workarounds.

og 8 items are balanced too.
8 dx is crap crap crap. item balance got thrown out of the window in favor of "look kids, you can hold 2 items!" when item power was made around the idea of holding only one item.

I never liked it. The graphics are ugly, the car and 2 characters are way too big on screen, and picking 2 characters was a dumb gimmick that annoyed me. I don't get the praise.

Two racers was a fun gimmick, I wish they brought it back instead of bikes or kart customization.

Also I loved how the blue shell in DD fucked up everyone on the track on its way to obliterate 1st place, I wish it worked like that in every game. It makes it feel actually useful for fucking up the racers in front of you instead of just the faggot on the other side of the track.

It feels very slippery. You are constantly sliding around. Even if you hit walls or items, which is nice, but weird.

The only thing I don't like about it is how you have to rotate the stick around a bunch to drift boost and unfortunately that heavily hurts my enjoyment of the game. Mario Kart really didn't figure out drifting until Wii, 64 came close but its still kind of weird.

On 150cc, your "rival" will sometimes shift into lightspeed and then slow down ahead of you until they're just in green shell range. Probably happens once/twice a race on average. If you race well enough though you can seem to keep your lead without this happening, so I'm not 100% sure how it works.
