I remember back in the day there being a tips and tricks guide for this game posed on /v/. About to start so wanted to see if anyone had it. Main thing i recall was it saying a bunch of stats were useless.

I am not sure which one you mean but most of the time they say go with wisdom and int and don’t worry about the rest for first playthrough.
Wisdom and intelligence will give you far more dialogue options and make the storyline clearer as well as greatly increase experience. Try to put both at least 18 in the character generation screen.

Just start with 18 Wisdom, 16 Intelligence, and 14 Charisma. Become a Mage asap. It's worth bumping Charisma to 16, but you will need 24 Wisdom total by the end of the game to fully conversate with the final boss. That's about it, it isn't really complicated. Btw, people like to pretend there's literally zero combat in this game but be prepared to beat a couple trash mobs to death.

The fights, the perilous scenarios, and skin-of-the teeth survival using your own tactics and approaches offer more than uncovering a few more pre-written paragraphs ever could.
