If I make a retro game using SDL and opengl is that allowed here?

so you asked a question you already know the answer to?
be honest, this is just your faggy little attempt to get people to ask you about your game, isn't it?

That's nostalgic. My first experience making games outside of RPG Maker was using SDL in the mid 2000s.

It's more that I want to remake some retro games but I don't want to deal with the faggotry of writing a ROM in ASM.

Think itโ€™s largely a question of how closely it sticks to the conventions of the platform
Iโ€™m pretty sure Iโ€™ve seen threads about the Bloodstained classic-era homages on here despite neither being remakes or homebrew capable of running on original hardware, because they *feel* like proper NES games
Meanwhile I doubt a thread about Void Stranger would survive despite its Game Boy-esque presentation and being a Sokoban clone (which is as Game Boy as it gets) because it clearly exceeds the bounds of the system outside of the core gameplay loop

If you target old enough PC hardware, then yes (probably).

No, the game would have to run on retro hardware, not using modern engines/APIs/hardware but just look retro. There are already thousands of such games, none of them count as retro.

A grey area that's generally accepted here is a retro game that has been decompiled and ported to modern APIs/hardware, but re-creating that game from scratch on modern methods rather than decompiling the original code would not count.

Would early Linux count? Loki actually developed stuff like SDL for Linux ports of late 90s Windows titles like Descent 3 and Heavy Gear 2. Of course OP is probably using SDL 2 though.

the ps2 is newer than the pc i played halflife 2 on back in 2004 so this requirement means absolutely nothing.

actually, ive seen it get mentioned "once". in the middle of some random, arcade cabinet thread, i noticed that the arcade cabinets display art on the side was a giant robot that looked really familiar? some random, no-name, chinese company made some random robot game and just stole the fucking boxart and slapped it on the side of their cabinet. no idea how id find that shit again.
